This document discusses the Hudson River Sustainable Shorelines Project, which aims to identify priority shorelines for ecologically-enhanced shoreline designs. The project develops recommendations for shoreline management that preserve or enhance ecological values while increasing shoreline resiliency. Field data is being collected on hardened shorelines from Tappan Zee Bridge to Troy to identify candidate locations for new demonstration sites showing sustainable shoreline designs. These demonstration sites highlight techniques that maintain ecological services, provide resilience, and accommodate human use. Information from the priority shoreline inventory will be used to identify new locations for demonstration sites based on the presence of valuable infrastructure, shoreline vegetation, and degrading shorelines.
