Lionsgate was founded in 1997 in Vancouver by Frank Giustra and Avi Federgreen with initial investments of $16 million. Over its first 18 years, Lionsgate grew from releasing just 3 films in its first year to 487 films by 2014, increasing its annual turnover from -$2 million to over $487.5 million. Known for its Saw horror franchise, Lionsgate became one of the most successful film studios in the world between 2010-2014 due to its rapid growth and financial success despite humble beginnings.
