LIghter Footprints proposals for Our Low Carbon Future consultation session with the Boroondara Sustainablity Network 15 Nov 2011

2. CPRS versus ‘carbon tax’ The OLCF (Boroondara) was initiated in mid 2009. At that time, the Australian Government’s proposal was the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS) which was a ‘cap and trade’ system. A ‘carbon price’ (not CPRS) has recently been legislated, with a $23/tonne ‘carbon tax’ . The attached link is a submission from ALGA to Greg Combet in August 2011. It highlights a view that there will be a serious and ongoing financial impact on local government - particularly in regard to waste, sewage treatment and street lighting.
