This document provides guidance on developing a daily and weekly Lenten prayer program. It emphasizes the importance of giving God time through daily prayer, keeping the Sabbath holy, and bringing the liturgical life of the Church into the home. It discusses reasons for divorce being related to lack of time spent with God and one's spouse. The document encourages focusing on prayer and one's relationship with God and spouse by structuring time for prayer each day and week and participating in the liturgical calendar as a family.
Fellowship is one of those buzz Christian words. Churches have
fellowship halls, fellowship meetings, and times of fellowship. But what
do we mean?
The Greek word is koinonia, which translates as partnership. The origin
of the word is koinonos, which means partner, sharer, and companion. In
short, it is a shared community that involves deep, close-knit
participation among its people. The picture then is not of a surface-level,
friendly fellowship but of a radical and almost intimate unity. And this is
the consistent teaching of the New Testament. The first occurrence of
koinonia in the Bible comes in Acts 2:42. The newly baptized believers
“devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship
(koinonia), to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” Luke comments that
they, “had everything in common” as they sold property to give to
anyone in need, gathered regularly in the temple courts, and ate joyfully
in their homes (Acts 2:43-47). This is far more than formal nominal
Christianity. This is the real deal. And it’s attractive because it’s so real. God has saved us to belong to his new family, and the mark of true
belonging is an active love which sacrificially serves.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

10. The Benefits of Prayer
• Greater overall well-being.
• Greater hope and optimism.
• Greater purpose and meaning.
• Greater self-esteem.
• Less loneliness, depression, anxiety.
• Fewer suicides.
• Less substance abuse.
• Less schizophrenia and other psychoses.
11. God is good for you personally and for your
marriage. So, how much time should you give
God? It depends on how much you have!
12. The Story of a 1000 Marbles
• A man in his mid fifties calculated that he
had 1000 Saturday mornings left in his
life.
• He bought 1000 marbles and put them
into a clear plastic container.
• Each Saturday morning he took out one
marble and threw it away.
• As the number of marbles decreased, his
perspective on life changed.
• He began to focus on what was important
– his wife and children.
14. How much time do you have?
We need to get serious about building out a
prayer life that truly unites us to Christ.
15. Keep Holy the Sabbath
• “Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy”
(Deuteronomy 4:12).
• “Just as God „rested on the seventh day from
all his work which he had done,‟ human life has
a rhythm of work and rest … On Sundays and
other holy days of obligation, the faithful are to
refrain from engaging in work or activities that
hinder the worship owed to God, the joy proper
to the Lord‟s Day, the performance of the
works of mercy, and the appropriate relaxation
of mind and body” (Catechism #2184-2185).
16. The Continual Sacrifice
• “This is what you shall offer upon the altar; two
lambs a year old day by day continually. One
lamb you shall offer in the morning, and the
other lamb you shall offer in the evening”
(Exodus 29:38-39).
• Begin and end every day in prayer.
• Listen as well as speak: “For God alone my
soul waits in silence, for my hope is from him.
He only is my rock and my salvation, my
fortress; I shall not be shaken” (Psalm 62:5-6).
• End with an Examination of Conscience.
17. We must build a structured approach to our prayer
life – every day and every week. However, we
must go further. It relates to the union existing
between the hierarchical Church and the domestic
church.
18. The Mystical Reality of the Church
• “The Church has been seen as „a people made
one with the unity of the Father, the Son and the
Holy Spirit‟” (Vatican II, Lumen Gentium, #4).
• “Christ … established … His holy Church … as an
entity with visible delineation … the society
structured with hierarchical organs and the
Mystical Body of Christ are not to be considered
as two realities … rather they form one complex
reality” (Vatican II, Lumen Gentium, #8).
• “The family is, so to speak, the domestic church”
(Vatican II, Lumen Gentium, #11).
19. The Liturgical Year
“Holy Mother Church believes that she should
celebrate the saving work of her divine Souse in a
sacred commemoration on certain days
throughout the course of the year … In the course
of the year, moreover, she unfolds the whole
mystery of Christ … Thus recalling the mysteries
of the redemption, she opens up to the faithful the
riches of her Lord‟s powers and merits, so that
these are in some way made present in every
age.”
