Big data a possible game changer for e-governanceSomenath Nag
Big data is an IT trend on the fast track. It is one of the most disruptive IT trends that will change the way business is done today. It will make the organizations a proactive one from the current reactive state through the insights generated from the vast volume of data that is getting generated across different medium. There is a huge potential of using Big Data in e-governance projects for improving efficiency, transparency, and resource utilization of the system.

A Framework for Cloud Computing Adoption in South African GovernmentGovCloud Network
Technology adoption is always a critical concern in organizations (private and public). South African government experienced this encounter when adopted Open Source Software (OSS) with the objective to reduce ICT services costs among others. The implementation of OSS in SA government has faced several challenges such as user resistance, human factor, support and funding. As a result of these challenges cost reduction has not been fully achieved. Cost reduction issue ultimately affects implementation of other government programmes such as those who yields job creation, better education, and improving health, etc. The potential alternative to address the same objective as aimed by OSS is Cloud Computing adoption. Cloud Computing promise to offer the SA government more advantages OSS. This study explore the feasibility of Cloud Computing adoption as an alternative to enable cost reduction, effectiveness and efficient of IT services in SA government as was aimed by OSS initiative.

OSEHRA Summit 2012 Lunch Keynote: Current health IT systems integrate poorly ...Shahid Shah
OSEHRA Summit 2012 Lunch Keynote - The Myth of Health Data Integration Complexity. This is an opinionated look at why current health IT systems integrate poorly and how it’s a big opportunity for the OSEHRA Community.
Background:
* A deluge of healthcare data is being created as we digitize biology, chemistry, and physics.
* Data changes the questions we ask and it can actually democratize and improve the science of medicine, if we let it.
* While cures are the only real miracles of medicine, big data can help solve intractable problems and lead to more cures.
* Healthcare-focused software engineering is going to do more harm than good (industry-neutral is better).
Key takeaways:
* Major opportunity for systems integrators
* Applications come and go, data lives forever. He who owns, integrates, and uses data wins in the end.
* Never leave your data in the hands of an application/system vendor.
* There’s nothing special about health IT data that justifies complex, expensive, or special technology.
* Spend freely on multiple systems and integration-friendly solutions.
Gain New Insights by Analyzing Machine Logs using Machine Data Analytics and BigInsights.
Half of Fortune 500 companies experience more than 80 hours of system down time annually. Spread evenly over a year, that amounts to approximately 13 minutes every day. As a consumer, the thought of online bank operations being inaccessible so frequently is disturbing. As a business owner, when systems go down, all processes come to a stop. Work in progress is destroyed and failure to meet SLA’s and contractual obligations can result in expensive fees, adverse publicity, and loss of current and potential future customers. Ultimately the inability to provide a reliable and stable system results in loss of $$$’s. While the failure of these systems is inevitable, the ability to timely predict failures and intercept them before they occur is now a requirement.
A possible solution to the problem can be found is in the huge volumes of diagnostic big data generated at hardware, firmware, middleware, application, storage and management layers indicating failures or errors. Machine analysis and understanding of this data is becoming an important part of debugging, performance analysis, root cause analysis and business analysis. In addition to preventing outages, machine data analysis can also provide insights for fraud detection, customer retention and other important use cases.

Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.
Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
