Why this ?
Today’s Youth is
o Educated
o Intelligent
o Self – sufficient
o Career conscious…
11
Key to successful tomorrow is CONFIDENCE
And
CONFIDENCE is all about –
o Balance of looking & feeling good.
o being healthy.
o and of course, hard work .
12
Unmasking Skin
Epidermis – Uppermost layer of the
skin. Acts as a shield against dirt,
harmful particles, etc…
Dermis – Collagen, Elastin and
Sebaceous Glands. It provides
resilience, elasticity natural
moisturizer to the skin.
Subcutaneous Fat – Provides
cushioning and insulation.
13
Understanding your skin
Dry Skin
o Due to low level of sebum secretion it feels tight and uncomfortable on
washing.
o Tends to crack if not moisturized.
o Worsens with wind & extremes of temperature.
o Appears dull.
o May show thin expression lines.
Imbalance in skin lipids causes dry skin,
which could be aggravated with soaps.
14
Understanding your skin
Normal Skin –
Soft, Smooth , Even Tone, No blemishes , No visible pores ,
No greasy patches, Not very dry or very oily.
Oily Skin –
Dull appearance , Prone to Blackheads, Coarse pores & Pimples,
Embarrassing blemishes with unwanted shine.
A great advantage of oily skin is that
it ages slowly.
15
Combination Skin
Understanding your skin
o Combination of oily and dry skin.
o The centre zone panel consisting of the nose, forehead and chin
called the “T Zone” is greasy.
o The remaining portions including the cheeks , mouth and the area
around the eyes are dry.
o Such skin poses a dilemma for skin care.
Did you know?
As you get older turnover slows down from 20 days
(in young adults) to 30 days (in adults).
16
Common Skin Problems
Got a dry ,
patchy skin
What to do
with open
pores?
Will I ever have
Acne free skin?
Cream or lotion
Oily skin with
unwanted
shine
Moisturizer
vs
No
Moisturizer
17
Common Skin Problems
What is good
for my skin?
Screening advice &
available information
Pimples, black
heads, Unwanted
shine
My skin looks just
fine don’t need
to do anything…
Soap
vs
face wash
18
•But Still has a lot of unanswered questions!!!
•Looking good to feel good and confident
•Skin is the Outward appearance of who we are or what we are.
•Quality of skin can seriously influence the Social Acceptance of it’s
owner.
19
Unmasking Skin
SKIN – the largest organ of the body.
o The total surface area of the skin ranges from
2500 sq. cm. (at birth) to 18,000 sq cm
(at adulthood).
o Total weight of skin is about 4.8 kgs in men
and 3.2 kgs in women.
o The thickness of skin varies – thinnest on the
eyelids and thickest on the palms of hands and
feet.
20
Why do we need to take care of Skin?
Because the SKIN…
o Is the first line of defense.
o Appreciation of senses – touch, pain and temperature.
o Provide thermoregulation with the help of sweat glands & blood vessels.
o Protects from physical & chemical injury like UV rays.
o Prevents water loss.
o Synthesizes Vitamin D.
21
Why do we need to take care of Skin?
Bad, uncared for skin can lead to
o low self esteem
o lack of confidence
affecting the growing minds scope of performance and
chances of success.
22
Why now?
My skin was perfectly fine earlier. Why Now?
There are lot of reasons that cause changes in the skin, like:
Non medical reasons:
o Environment - Pollution, dust, etc….
o Seasonal Changes - too much of heat or cold humidity, etc…
o Changes in the life style, Improper diet, Stress, etc..
o Wrong usage of skin care products, Excessive sun exposure, etc….
Medical reasons:
o Changes in the hormones,
o Menstrual Cycle, Drugs – taken for Medical reasons, Pills, etc.
THANK YOU
