Let me show you the right way Lesson 1, The Cell Phone CameraBrad Houser
This document provides guidance on using landscape vs portrait mode on cell phone cameras. It notes that while portrait mode is acceptable for viewing on phones, landscape mode is better for viewing on computers and TVs, which have horizontal orientations. Specifically, it states that landscape mode makes use of 100% of screens in their full horizontal width, while portrait images are scaled down by 50-56% and leave blank space on wider screens. The recommendation is to shoot in landscape mode to ensure others can fully see your photos and videos on different devices.

Editing video editing is the process by which you take footage that you recorded, cut and splice it together to create a compelling movie, short, instructional video, seminar, or any other type of video that you desire. It is important to have quality shots to work with before you head into the editing stage of your production. If all you have is of poor quality or doesn’t convey what you had intended from the beginning, then you will be limited in how effective the editing process can be.

Further instructions are given to move slightly left and smile for the photo before a message indicates the photo ability is fake and to get back to work.
Photography involves more than just pointing and shooting - it is an artistic process of capturing moments to make them eternal. While cameras make it easy to shoot in automatic modes, learning to manually control settings like aperture, shutter speed, and ISO allows photographers to get the exact exposure they want and improve picture quality. Mastering manual mode requires understanding how each setting impacts brightness and depth of field/motion blur so photographers can balance the tradeoffs to suit their creative vision.
The document provides guidance on shooting and editing video, emphasizing the importance of planning what the video is about in a single sentence, who the audience is, and what will be shown and in what order. It recommends framing shots properly while standing still, keeping audio in mind, and advises against zooming, instead recommending panning and tilting. The process of capturing, editing, and exporting video is also outlined, with a link provided for more information.

Brandwatch Masterclass: Using Brandwatch for Community ManagementBrandwatch
Over the past year, we’ve been conducting an experiment of our own that started with the question: ‘what if we brought together a bunch of our customers, to teach them tips and tricks for social listening and hear about their woes and concerns in person?’
This particular experiment has turned into quite the success as we just completed our fourth US Masterclass last month.
It wouldn’t be a Brandwatch event if we didn’t show how clients can make the most of their social media data. Our agenda for the day is usually a mix of query writing and data analysis sessions, advanced community management tips, along with client use cases highlighting how Brandwatch has helped them cut through the noise in social conversation.

This study examined the population density and depth distribution of the long-spined sea urchin Diadema antillarum in Discovery Bay, Jamaica. D. antillarum is a keystone species that regulates algal growth on coral reefs through grazing. The study found that D. antillarum densities were highest between 5-15 meters deep, defining the "Diadema zone." Compared to 2010, D. antillarum populations have increased in 2014 and the depth range of highest densities has become slightly shallower. The recovery of D. antillarum is important for the health of Caribbean coral reefs by limiting competition between algae and corals for space and light.

What is this "journalistic style" branding thing that University Marketing is talking about? What’s wrong with people mugging for the camera? And why is that tree growing out of your chancellor’s head?
We’ll talk about those cameras you carry with you all the time (hint: they're on your phone) and maybe take a quick look at cataloging and toning your photos with Adobe Lightroom.
If you’re a seasoned photographer or an avid hobbyist, you might want to find a session on Yik Yak or web design or making accessible pdfs. But if you want to put some life into the photos you use on your website and in marketing materials, this is for you.

Let me Show You the Right Way Lesson 1, The Cell Phone Camera
1. Let Me Show You
the Right Way
LESSON 1: THE CELL PHONE CAMERA
2. The Cell Phone Camera
It is an amazing device:
You can take decent quality pictures and
record acceptable live video
Now most everyone has the opportunity to be
on the evening news, or to have a video go
viral on YouTube
But a professional camera it isn’t
Many have limited resolution and high
compression, which result in compromised
quality
3. The Cell Phone Camera
Given you want the best possible recording to give the best possible playback,
there is one thing that many people are doing absolutely wrong!
That’s OK.
As my late father used to tell me:
LET ME SHOW YOU THE RIGHT WAY!
4. Which is Better for pictures and video?
Portrait Mode? Or Landscape Mode?
5. Portrait Mode Is “OK”
for viewing on a
Cell Phone
100% of the screen is used
Image is Scaled at 100% (full size)
Like looking through a doorway
6. Landscape Mode is also Fine for
viewing on a Cell Phone
100% of the screen is used
100% Scaled
Like Looking through a
picture window
7. Landscape Mode is Great for viewing
on a PC or TV
100% of the screen is used
Image is Scaled at 100%
(full size)
More natural way of
viewing the world
After all, our eyes are side
by side, not on top of
each other!
8. So What’s the Problem?
Not everyone wants to view your stuff on their cell phone
They may want to use a PC or even their flat panel TV
Most displays have a Horizontal orientation
11. Portrait Mode on a PC is a problem
Only 56% of screen is used
Picture is scaled 56%
HD: 1920 x 1080
1080/1920 = 0.56
You are making everything half size!
12. What do you want your friends to
see?
This? Or This?
14. So What have we Learned?
Say “NO” to Vertical shots Say “YES” to Horizontal shots
15. So Remember:
For Maximum Picture size on the most display devices – Shoot in
Landscape Mode
Portrait Mode is OK, if your subject doesn’t fit, but remember, you
can usually move or zoom to make things fit in Landscape mode
