Achieving andmaintaining health is an ongoing process, shaped by both
the evolution of health care knowledge and practices, as well as personal
strategies and organized interventions for staying healthy.
Role o f Public Health
Public health has been described as “the science and art of
preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health
through the organized efforts and informed choices of
society, organizations, public and private, communities and
individuals.” It is concerned with threats to the overall
health of a community based on population health analysis.

good health than just good dietary habits. There are five
dimensions to good health. Explore them for a better and happier
life.
Overall good health and wellness are inter dependent on five
dimensions name physical, intellectual, emotional, social and
spiritual. These good health parameters have been set by the
World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948.Our body and mind are
tuned to send us signals for any non- functional activity,
generally called symptoms. It’s important to read and
understand them in time, to ensure balance of mind spirit and
body.

Physical
Physical health refers to the state of the body its composition development,
functions and maintenance. Following are a few ways to ensure good
physical health.
a. Eat nutritious food to keep the body and mind energized.
b. Never skip meals or overeat.
c. Water is essential for cleansing the body.
d. Fitness through exercise will increase immunity and endurance level of the
body.
e. Regular medical checkups can help in arresting an illness in its early stages.
f. Sleep for at least 7 uninterrupted hours daily.
g. Avoid addictive substances.

This is the cognitive ability to develop skills and knowledge to

Our ability to accept and cope with our own and other’s feelings is defined as
emotional well-being. Emotions contribute to almost all aspects of our life , at
times ,even setting course s of action Symptoms of emotional problem such as
hopelessness ,depression
,anxiety and even suicidal tendencies are not always easily detectable but can lead to
dire consequences .
a.Be aware and accept our strengths and short comings. This is
essential for our emotional well-being.
b.Be able to handle stress and seek help, if needed.
c.Build strong communication networks among family, friends and
peers.

To build andmaintain satisfying relationship comes naturally to us, as we are
social animals, being socially accepted is also connected to our emotional well-
being.
SPIRITUAL
Our good health is incomplete without being spiritually healthy. To
seek meaning and purpose of life is termed as being spiritual.
Spiritual health dimension refers to our personal belief and value ,our
own acceptance or rejection of the creation .There are no prescribed
ways to attain spiritual well-being , it’s more a matter of looking

They also include personal hygiene practices to prevent infection and illness
such as bathing and washing hand with soap, brushing and flossing teeth,

The information gleaned from personal observation of daily living -such as about
sleep patterns ,exercises, behavior, nutritional intake and environmental features
may be used to inform personal decisions and actions as well as clinical decisions
and treatment plans.

maintenance of strong social relationship, volunteering and other social activities have been
linked to positive mental health and even increased longevity.
Prolonged psychological stress may negatively impact health and has been cited as a
factor in cognitive impairment with aging, depressive illness and expressions of disease.
Stress management is the application of method to either reduce stress to relieve stress
Psychological methods include cognitive therapy, meditation, and positive thinking
which work by reducing response to stress. Improving relevant skills such as problem
solving and time management skills reduces uncertainty and builds confidence which also
reduces the reaction to stress causing situations where those skills are applicable .
