1960's – Women in Every Day Life Woman sets a new world record for the 100 meter dash Woman's book brings about environmental movement The Feminine Mystique is published which in turn creates the modern women's movement The Equal Pay Act is passed which prohibits the sexual discrimination in the workforce Civil Rights Act is also passed which prohibits discrimination against anyone based on sex, race, ethnicity or religion
1960's – Women in Every Day Life National Organization for Women is founded which ensures equal rights for women First woman to own a seat in New York Stock Exchange First African American women is elected to Congress
1960's – Women in Workforce Women begin to get jobs again 43% of women are in the workforce and a lot of these women are wives and mothers Over 30% of married women are working which doubled since the 1940's
1960's – Media (Music) Music sung by women is beginning to be about what is going on in history Big concentration on gaining equality and gaining respect from men Respect by Aretha Franklin is very popular
1960's – Media (Comics and Movies) Batman Batgirl was introduced in the 1960's  Showed women as being strong and brave  Still needed the help of a man or a man by her side (Batman) Breakfast at Tiffany's Audrey Hepburn (huge actress of the 1960's) Simple beauty, naive, need for a man, love for feminine things such as shopping
History vs. Media Women were gaining a lot of power and it needed to be acknowledged in the media Superhero women were introduced which showed women as being capable but still needing men  Women were still shown as being naive and needing assistance Characters such as Audrey Hepburn's in Breakfast at Tiffany's showed that the media still wanted to show women how they should be acting Women still had to focus on their looks  Appearance meant a lot
