METHODS IN TEACHING
TEACHING METHODOLOGY
refers to the systematic approach or strategy used by
educators to facilitate learning. It encompasses a set of
principles, practices, and techniques that guide how
teaching is structured and how students engage with
content.
The purpose of a teaching methodology is to effectively
support students' understanding and mastery of the
subject matter while considering their needs, learning
styles, and the objectives of the lesson.
TEACHING METHODOLOGIES CAN BE BROADLY
CLASSIFIED INTO SEVERAL CATEGORIES, SUCH AS:
1) Teacher-Centered Methods: These are traditional
methods where the teacher is the primary authority and
provides direct instruction, such as lectures,
demonstrations, and discussion.
2) Student-Centered Methods: These methods focus on the
active participation of students in the learning process.
Examples include project-based learning, inquiry-based
learning, and cooperative learning, where students
collaborate and take ownership of their learning.
TEACHING METHODOLOGIES CAN BE BROADLY
CLASSIFIED INTO SEVERAL CATEGORIES, SUCH AS:
3) Blended Methods: These combine both teacher-directed
and student-centered techniques to cater to different
learning needs and contexts, such as flipped classrooms,
where students learn content independently and use class
time for discussions and application.
TEACHING METHODOLOGIES CAN BE BROADLY
CLASSIFIED INTO SEVERAL CATEGORIES, SUCH AS:
Effective teaching methodologies often require
flexibility, adaptability, and continuous
assessment to ensure that the instructional
approach meets the diverse needs of students.
The choice of methodology depends on various

demographics, class size, and educational goals.

LESSON 1: CONCEPTS OF TEACHING
TEACHING AS A MINISTRY
Ministry connotes the performance of certain activities for
others. It may be in the form of service to your students in
order to help them succeed in life. Teaching compromises
one of the most meaningful ministries in our life.
By helping the students realize their dreams through
education, we unconditionally extend to them our
assistance so that they will be able to think
independently, make wise decisions for themselves and
others so that in the end, they will be able to make a
difference in society.
TEACHING AS A MINISTRY
“the measure of one’s love is to love without
measure”.
Applying it to teaching…
“the measure of one’s unconditional teaching is
to teach without counting the cost”.
TEACHING AS A PROFESSION
Teaching as a profession is in equal footing with other
professions by virtue of Presidential Decree 1006 which
became effective last January 16, 1977. This is a decree
which professionalizes teaching in our country
promulgating the crucial and relevant role of teachers in
shaping the future of a nation through education. In
addition, this decree boosted the morale of teachers
through provision of incentives and motivation because
like all other professions, teaching requires a specific
number of years of higher education studies.
TEACHING AS A PROFESSION
Alongside with the aforementioned decree is the
Philippine Teachers Professionalization Act of 1994
(Republic Act 7836) which strengthens the regulation and
supervision of the practice of teaching in the Philippines
and thus prescribes a licensure examination for teachers.
•Has its own body of specialized knowledge
•Upholds service over and above personal and monetary profit
•For professional competency, requires continuous professional growth
•Establishes its own policies and standards for professional exercise
•Has its own unique professional organization
TEACHING AS A SCIENCE
Like other professions, teaching must subject itself to an
organized and objective planning, preparation and
execution of the lessons in order to direct the learners
towards the different learning episodes. It commits itself
to an unbiased analysis, problem-solving and
modification of the outcomes of learning. In so doing, the
facts and information will be accurate, relevant and
readily available to the students.
TEACHING AS A SCIENCE
As a science, it is inspiring and refreshing craft to the
teachers for the laboratory is the classroom itself where
meaningful and relevant interaction takes place. In
addition, the community of learners, with the guidance
and motivation of the teacher, is in constant search and
enrichment of their learning inputs and outputs.
TEACHING AS A VOCATION
It is in this concept of teaching that a teacher is
committed to endure in the teaching profession against all
odds. If teaching is viewed as a mere job, one will have
in his/her mind the monetary rewards that teaching will
provide. But foremost genuinely loving it for the learners’
sake elevates teaching into eternity so to speak! It should
not be a surprise that some teachers opted to stay single
for the rest of their life and “marry instead the teaching
profession”!
ACTIVITY #1
Make a convincing and attractive sticker or image that
will accentuate the unique role of the teaching profession
in this age of information.
ACTIVITY #3: IF I WERE YOU
STEP 1: On your paper, try listing down all the
problems and issues you find it concerning regarding
the behavior and attitude of students today.
AS MANY AS YOU CAN FOR 5
MINUTES!
ACTIVITY #2: IF I WERE YOU
STEP 2: Cross out all the words that you think
you see other students or your classmates
doing it.
DO IT IN 3 MINUTES!
ACTIVITY #2: IF I WERE YOU
STEP 3: Encircle all the words that you think
is/are relatable or applicable to YOU.
DO IT IN 3 MINUTES!
ACTIVITY #2: IF I WERE YOU
STEP 4: Choose 3 among the words that you
think you can manage to fix if you were their
TEACHER. And enclosed it with a heart ( )
DO IT IN 3 MINUTES!
ACTIVITY #2: IF I WERE YOU
STEP 5: Explain how you would do it by
practicing your own kind of methods,
strategies or style as a TEACHER.

TIME UNTIL 6:00 PM
