Therese Bonney, Janet Flanner, and Erika Mann were three extraordinary women who worked as war correspondents during WWII while also living as lesbians. As lesbians working in traditionally male-dominated fields during a time when being openly LGBTQ could severely damage one's career and life, these three women showed tremendous bravery in documenting the war as well as courage to follow their hearts in their personal lives. Their work provided important perspectives on the war and its impacts, and they served as examples of diversity and courage in facing both external wars and internal struggles with their sexuality.
