2. LEARNING
It is a lifelong process of transforming information and experience into knowledge, skill, polishing up our behavior, and
developing a positive attitude
It is all about brining a relatively permanent change in oneself through direct experience i.e., by doing an act or by
observation
It is an abstract term that cannot be measured
It is a key process in human behavior.
An individual constantly interacts with the environment and also gets influenced by it.
This experience makes him to change or modify his behavior in order to deal effectively with it.
Learning effects a change in one’s behavior.
This behavioral change occurs due to some form of practice, experience or training.
DEFINITION
LEARNING is defined as “any relatively permanent change in behavior that occurs as a result of practice and
experience”.
3. PRINCIPLES OF LEARNING
Learning is governed by certain principles which ensure smooth transformation of knowledge and skill. The main
principles of learning are:
Learning requires feedback at regular intervals for better results
Learners’ performance enhances by constant practice
Learning is based on past experience
Learning can occur at any point of time
Learning requires motivation
Learning is problem solving and challenging problems stimulate learning
Learning is effective only when it is applied to a job
Learning connects communities and goes beyond classrooms
Learning is most effective when evaluated constantly
4. Learning Process
Learning is a continuous and never ending process. It can occur in education, development or training.
The four steps of the learning process are:
Perceiving
Deciding
Acting
Feedback
The Learning Process
Perceiving (Input)
Feedback (Internal or Deciding
External) (Processing)
Acting (Output)
5. 1. PERCEIVING
Perception is the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the use of senses.
It is the way in which something is regarded, understood, or interpreted.
Perception and action are a cycle.
People act in order to learn about their surroundings, which is used to guide their actions.
Perception often results in learning information that is directly or indirectly relevant to the
goals.
The learning process starts with the availability of inputs.
Perception differs from individual to individual and is the starting point of any learning process.
2. DECIDING
The gathered inputs are developed and analyzed.
A person perceives many things from the environment.
All are not analyzed.
Only things which interest him or that he remembers are recollected and analyzed.
A person uses his knowledge and experience in taking timely and correct decisions.
6. 3. ACTING
Great ideas go waste when they are not put into action
It is necessary to implement the decision taken.
Action is the process of doing something, typically to achieve a goal or purpose.
This will make learning permanent and increase an individual’s capability
4. FEEDBACK
Feedback is the final stage of learning process.
This enables an individual to correct oneself.
The feedback can come from within (internally) or externally from an outsider or both.
It is reflection of one’s action
It enables an individual to identify his/her mistakes and rectify them, enabling the decision-
maker to alter the course and step on the right path
