LEAF-Structure
• Leaf areGreen Coloured thin, Broad and Flat part
of plants.
• It grows at a node.
• Leaf Blade: They are typical leaf expended flat
part. It is aslo known as Lamina.
• The leaf is attached to the stem by short
structure called petiole.
• It continues through the lamina as a mid-rib .
• And branches out into a fine network called the
Vain.
Modification of Leaf
Theleaves which perform sone special functions,
in addition to their usual function of
manufacturing of food are called modified leaves,
These modification of leaves are as follows:

Leaf Spine.
• Theyact as defence organs for protection
against grazing animals.
• Plants like cactus, the leaves gets modified
into hard and pointed structure, called
spines.
• And reduces the loss of water during excessive
hot climates.

Leaf Pitcher.
• Thisprocess provides the plants with nutrients
that the plants would not obtain otherwise.
• Plants like Pitcher plants & the sun dew,
possess highl modified leaves that traps, &
digests, insects.
• Such plants are called insectivorous Plants .

Leaf Tendril.
• Theyhelp the plant to climb.
• In some plants, the leaves gets modified into
structure which aqre highly coiled.
• Example Pea, gloriosa etc.
