LACK OF STRATEGY
UNCLEAR PURPOSE
SHORT TERM DECISION MAKING,
DRIVEN BY FINANCIAL RESULTS
TOXIC CULTURE
FEAR
ORGANIZATIONAL INABILITY TO
ABSORB LEARNINGS
➤Strategy:
➤Do we have a clear and focused innovatio
strategy?
➤Is there understanding in our business tha
our strategic goals can not be delivered
without innovation?
➤What is our M&A strategy and how does
innovation fit into it?
➤Portfolio:
➤Is portfolio mix well aligned to strategy? Do
you understand where current products and
services fit?
➤What is the gap in your current portfolio?
➤What % of the portfolio do you feel
comfortable allocating to innovation (core vs
adjacent vs transformative)?
➤Lifecycle:
➤How are you managing ideas through the funnel - do
you distinguish between searching for a business
model vs executing on an existing business model?
➤How do you evaluate ideas at different stages of their
lifecycle?
➤Do you have a defined set of KPIs you can evaluate all
ideas against?
➤Governance
➤Do you use metered funding?
➤How are decisions being made in the organization?
➤Do you co-design with customers? How
do you identify early adopters?
➤Are teams set up for success? Do they
have all the skills they need?
➤How does the team size/composition
differ depending on whether you are
searching or executing?

➤What happens to the team if the idea
fails? Are you able to celebrate quick
failure?
➤How do you support community and
knowledge sharing?
➤How do you keep change sustainable?
➤Are you able to embrace the culture of
continuous learning?

Editor's Notes

  • #6  Good morning everyone. My name is Sonja Kresojevic, I am an executive, an entrepreneur (co-founder of NY/London based strategy and innovation consultancy, speaker, writer, feminist, liberal, digital nomad with three passports, mom to two amazing kids. 6 countries, 10 cities, 30 apartments, 2 masters, 3 citizenships, 20 years of global corporate
  • #7 We built a community, we created an ecosystem in which people could learn, work on their ideas, get funding to test them, develop a mindset of failing fast or learning fast, we built a movement of continuous learning in the organisation. We deployed practices of co-creation, with customers, with employees working on new processes. We created a movement. changed the processes, governance, funding models, and over years some of the biggest opponents of our work became our most vocal supporters. We invested a lot in learning ourselves as a team - building a community with external practitioners, monthly meet ups, monthly learning sessions, coaching program etc
  • #17 Leadership - denial, inflexibility Relying on grass roots movements “air cover” support It’s not us is them culture Blame Control

  • #26 Change means embracing the unknown. If we just continue to repeat the same behaviours, than our future is as predictable as our past - the same (we are stuck in the program and not present) If we can only go back in time - because it was known, familiar, comfortable
  • #28 No separation between work self and personal self
  • #29 Most important leadership challenge today FROM EGO-SILO AWARNESS TO HOLYSTIC, SYSTEMS VIEW Eco - focused on wellbeing for all It is a shift from an ego-system awareness that cares about the well-being of oneself to an eco-system awareness that cares about the well-being of all, including oneself. When operating with ego-system awareness, we are driven by the concerns and intentions of our small ego self. When operating with eco-system awareness, we are driven by the concerns and intentions of our emerging or essential self—that is, by a concern that is informed by the well-being of the whole.
