Matter can exist in three states - solid, liquid, or gas. It is composed of molecules made up of atoms with a nucleus of protons and neutrons surrounded by electrons. Atoms themselves are made of even smaller particles called quarks. Matter can undergo physical, chemical, or nuclear changes that alter its composition or structure.
