Kira loses both of her parents and is taken in by the community where she lives. She befriends Thomas and Matt, two other orphaned children. Thomas surprises Kira by bringing her a blind man he found in the woods, who Kira later remembers was talked about in the community as having gotten lost. The antagonist is a mean lady who took Kira in after her mother died. The story is set in old times and explores Kira dealing with becoming orphaned.
