- The Rumba they say is a generic term that covers a variety of dances. The term comes from the word “rumbear” which means to party an have a good time. There were two different sources for the dance. One was Spain and the other Africa. The main growth took place in Cuba other developments came from the Caribbean and Latin America so like the salsa, it has many different origins. This dance can range from very fast with exaggerated hip movements with sensual aggressiveness from the man and a defensive attitude from the woman.
