The Late Medieval Era saw widespread famine and plague that devastated the European population. The Black Death bubonic plague arrived from Asia between 1348-1350 and killed approximately one-third of Europeans as fleas on rats spread the disease. Political conflicts also arose such as the Great Schism between the Pope and French king over their powers, and the Hundred Years War between France and England from 1337-1453 over disputed land that eventually resulted in a French victory.
