2. Larry is a small robot controlled from an Android application.
Main functions of Larry are: movement control, status control
(simulated emotions), live streaming (detecting and
recognizing people around by capturing and filtering images).
From a tablet, multiple predefined emotional states like angry,
happy, sad or scared can be controlled, and the robot reacts by
performing gestures like turning eyes or speaking.

3. Larry’s brain is a C++ application that runs on an NVIDIA Jetson TK1 board. This main
application manages the communication between the different modules comprising the
robot. It also exposes a control interface to which an Android application can connect and
perform various calls to move the robot, change its predefined emotional states and
display the live video feed coming from Larry’s on-board See3cam camera.
The movement module is a Parallax Robot Base, controlled by an Arduino Mega 2560 and
the eye control module is based on an Adafruit Pix Led set controlled by an Arduino Uno.
This small robot was developed mainly as part of a marketing strategy in order to
participate to certain events for interacting with potential new clients or future employees.
Visibility was not the only purpose of this robot; teamwork and improvement of employee
skills inside the company were also stimulated by this task.

Our company has setup the hardware part of the robot as well as the
communication between the modules and components and
developed the software components required by each module and
the Android client application.

Larry’s future holds a more autonomous personality. The little robot
will be able to map out his surroundings and hand out fliers to
detected people and have a short conversation with them.

5. OBJECTIVES
This small robot is part of a marketing strategy and an excellent
interoperational platform between departments and people inside
the company.
RESULTS
The main result is a small robot able to move, to listen, to look and to
perform any other specific tasks. In fact, is a high-tech mascot and
an emblematic figure of the company.
