1. Large Group Performance Evaluation

Dear Cooper Orchestra Parents:
Each year, Cobb County orchestras participate in a Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE), which is hosted by
the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA). Students will be evaluated at this event through their performance of three
pieces of music that they are preparing. After their performance, they will then be evaluated on what is known as “Sight-
reading.” This is where students are given a brand-new piece of music and a few minutes to study it before they must perform
it.
This year, Cooper Middle School will be hosting the festival for the first time. Griffin, Floyd, Campbell, Lindley, Smitha,
Garrett, Tapp, and Cooper Middle Schools will be the south Cobb schools that will be participating in at this event.
Students who wish to participate at this event must learn their part and attend the after school rehearsals. Students
must be attentive in class and actively participate during instruction. Students who are disruptive or talk excessively in class
will not be permitted to attend this event.

If there are any conflicts with the dates listed above please send me an email. Students who miss two or more of the
after school rehearsals may be asked not to participate in this event. We will have our Pre-Festival concert here at Cooper on
Thursday, February 23rd (7pm) in the Cooper MS Theater.
