TUTORIAL:  LARGE  FORMAT  PRINTING
16x24  FINE  ART  PRINT

PRINT  ONLY  AT  QUICK  SHIP  &  COPY.  Their  large  format  printer  is  the  best  and  the  cheapest.  We  had  big
problems  printing  at  Alphagraphics,  Walmart,  and  with  all  campus  printers.

WHAT  YOU  NEED  TO  DO:
A.  Print  a  16x24  MOUNTED  on  foam  core  for  $16  (see  below)

REVIEW  THE  STANDARDS:    No  watermarks,  no  text,  no  temples,  no
tattoos,  no  strong  drinks,  gambling,  no  violence,  no  provocative  poses,
no  immodesty,  no  horror  or  unduly  evil  poses  or  signs,  and  no  guns.

EDITING:  When  you  see  your  image  printed  this  large  it  is  often  too  dark  and  too  soft.  80%  of  images  need
at  least  these  two  edits:
1.   Sharpen  just  the  focal  point  (try  Filters  –  Smart  Sharpen)
2.   Lighten  the  image  or  at  least  part  of  it.  (Try  Levels,  or  Shadows  and  Highlights)

PLEASE  GET  HELP  from  your  instructor  or  a  lab  assistant  with  this  if  you  have  not  printed  in  large  format
before,  or  if  any  of  this  is  not  very  clear.  J

OPTION  A.  Print  a  16x24  MOUNTED  on
foam  core  for  $16

1.  SAVE  .PSD:    Make  your  edits  (see  above)  then  save  as  a  full-
size  ,psd.

2.  FLATTEN  LAYERS  (Click  the  dropdown  in  the  top  right  corner
of  the  Layers  palette.)

3.  SIZE  TO  16x24:  Go  to  Image  –  Image  Size.  Uncheck  Resample  and  change  your  long  side  to  24
inches.  The  other  dimension  should  change  to  16  automatically.  You  may  leave  the  resolution  where  it  is,
but  be  sure  it  is  at  least  90  ppi.

NOTE:  The  original  proportion  out  of  a  DSLR  is  16x24,  or  very  close.  If  your  image  is  just  a  little  off,  then
use  the  crop  tool  to  make  it  16x24,  but  be  sure  you  don’t  change  the  resolution.  If  your  image  is  not  close  to
16x24,  then  you  must  have  cropped  it.)

3.  SAVE  AS  A  JPEG:  Go  to  File  –  Save  As.  Change  the  format  to  JPEG  and  save  at  the  largest  quality.

4.  PRINT  &  HAVE  IT  MOUNTED  AT  QUICK  SHIP  AND  COPY:
Take  your  16x24  jpeg  to  Quick  Ship  and  Copy  on  a  flash  drive.  Tell  them  you  would  like  this  printed  as  a
16x24  and  then  mounted  on  foam  core.

Voila!  Does  this  make  sense?  If  not,  please  meet  in  the  lab  and  have  a  lab  assistant  walk  you
through  this  to  prep  your  images  for  print.
