3. Executive Summary
An assessment intervention to check and validate the language skills of
contract employees with regard to their proficiency in English, Hindi and
Tamil at a pharmaceutical company.
Three assessors were assigned to evaluate 446 employees, in order to
test and grade them in language skills. The face-to-face assessment was
conducted over eight days.
The assessment composed of a spoken test for all the employees and a
written test for those who were proficient in writing. Computer skills
were also tested during the spoken test to evaluate familiarity with very
basic functions like scrolling, closing, opening etc.
Scorecards were used to capture the results of the test.
This report provides the results of the assessments.

The majority of the employees are proficient in Tamil with just 21%
scoring less than 69%.
34 employees are trainable in Tamil.

11. Observations
A majority of the employees who claimed proficiency in Hindi
scored below 59%.
Only 16% passed the assessment. However, 32 employees are
trainable.

12. Observations
Only 32% of those who claimed proficiency in English scored
above 70%.
14 employees are trainable in English.
