Designation: Test Specialist-SOAP UI Testing (Manual) – Senior QA Analyst
Client : BNSF Railways (USA)
This program is for BNSF (The Burlington Northern & Santa Fe) is a major USA railroad that is wholly owned by Berkshire
Hathaway (BH). BNSF is a western USA major railroad with approximately 36,000 miles of track, 750,000 individual cars of various
types, and a constant need to perform component maintenance on rail cars prior to failure. Component failure on cars leads to
derailments which may lead to loss of customer cargo, time, money, bad press, and even life. Over a hundred plus years of
experience and millions of track-miles certain car components have demonstrated thresholds that indicate nominal operation,
trending, pending, imminent, and failed components.
Since different car components fail in different ways it is required to measure the components differently. To measure an individual
component there are a series of "detectors" that are placed in the ground right next to the rails and when a train (collection of cars
connected in a specific sequence) goes by, often at 70mph, these detectors measure a specific component and stores and
analyses the data. If the data analysis meets predefined thresholds then an alarm is created and the central Network Operations
Desk is notified. They evaluate the alarm and detector type, and based on experience, make a determination on if the car can
remain in operation and be safely maintained at some point in the future or if immediate action must be made - like stopping the
train.
