La République du Cameroun means The Republic of Cameroon in English;
It is situated in West-Africa and is one of the 13 countries therein where French
is an official language;
La République du Cameroun shares boundaries with Nigeria and The Bight of
Biafra in the West, Chad and The Central African Republic in the East, Republic
of Congo, Equitorial Guniea and Gabon in the South and Lake Chad in the North

The location of La République du Cameroun (Republic of Cameroon) is very
strategic as it serves as a pont (Bridge) between Central Africa and West-Africa;
Douala is the largest city in this 475,442 sq km French speaking country but
Yaoundé remains the political capital of Cameroon;
This topical climate country is dry in the North despite its humidity in the South.

Rubber, Oil Palms and Bamboo Palms are among the number of tree species in
the rain-forest of Cameroon;
There is abundance of diverse wildlife and numerous species of reptiles and birds
in Cameroon;
Among the Hydro-Electric power stations in Cameroon, The Sanaga
PowerStation provides enough electricity to cater for the electricity consumption
needs of the country.

Apart from the significant reserves of offshore petroleum that Cameroon posses;
gold, limestone, uranium and bauxite are among the mineral resources it is
endowed with;
In 2013, the total population is estimated at 22,532,532 with about 50percent of
the total population living in the urban areas while the other half dwells in rural
areas, with farming as their major source of livelihood.

The largest city in La République du Cameroun is Douala while the political
capital city remains Yaoundé;
French and English are the official languages of this elongated triangle shaped
West African French Speaking country;
Other major towns in this country are Nkongsamba, Bafousam, Maroua and
Garoua.

There are 200 Ethnic groups in La République du Cameroun;
40 percent of the total population belongs to the Roman Catholic denomination
while 30 percent are Protestants. The Muslims constitute 18percent of the total
population while 3 percent believe in Folk customs;
The literacy rate is 71.3% in La République du Cameroun.

Bamileke and Fulani are among the major ethnic groups in La République du
Cameroun;
Despite Farming being the predominant occupation of 61 percent of its
population, the discovery and exploitation of offshore petroleum reserves have
made petroleum products surpass that of Agriculture in terms of export earnings;
As a matter of fact, an Oil Refinery was built on the coast at Limboh Point.

The unit of currency in La République du Cameroun is the Communauté
Financière Africaine (CFA) and its conversion is 1 USD = 587.638 CFA as at today
22nd May, 2015;
The major trading partners of this elongated-triangle shaped West-African
French speaking country in terms of exports are the United States of America,
Netherlands, France, Italy and Spain while Japan, Nigeria, France, Germany and
the United States are among its major import partners;

Unlike countries such as Nigeria where anybody that is 18Years and above is eligible to
vote, in La République du Cameroun , only citizens of age 21 and above are eligible to
vote;
The President is the Commander of the Armed Forces and also Chief of State;
He/She can be elected into office by universal suffrage for a more than a period of two
terms of 7years each; this is unlike most African countries whereby the maximum duration
a President can stay in office is 2 terms of 4/5years.

Prime-Minister is PHILEMON YANG;
La République du Cameroun gained independence on the 1st of January, 1960;
As part of its foreign relations, La République du Cameroun is a member of la
Francophonie, Commonwealth of Nations, The African Union and United
nations.
