More and more engineering and technical professionals are making career transitions from product design into project management. This, however, requires formal training and a willingness to learn new skills. All the technical know-how in the world will not deliver a project successfully, without proper project management skills. Unfortunately very few engineering professionals have any degree of formal project management training, which results in a great deal of personal stress as well as cost blowouts and other woes.
To address this problem, the workshop will focus on the critical project related activities such as work breakdown, scheduling, cost control and risk management, and show how these can be performed with software to lighten the project manager's workload. The 'soft' (but equally important) aspects such as team leadership and contract law are also covered in detail. All topics will be supplemented with practical exercises focusing primarily on the areas of electrical/electronic (including instrumentation) and mechanical engineering. If delegates wish to do so, they can choose small projects from their work environment as a basis for the practical exercises.

Supply Chain Excellence (SCE)

Initial pilots showed benefits and the roadmap includes standardizing master data, production planning, S&OP, and inventory optimization by 2017 with integrated metrics to track progress.

More and more engineering and technical professionals are making career transitions from product design into project management. This, however, requires formal training and a willingness to learn new skills. All the technical know-how in the world will not deliver a project successfully, without proper project management skills. Unfortunately very few engineering professionals have any degree of formal project management training, which results in a great deal of personal stress as well as cost blowouts and other woes.
To address this problem, the workshop will focus on the critical project related activities such as work breakdown, scheduling, cost control and risk management, and show how these can be performed with software to lighten the project manager's workload. The 'soft' (but equally important) aspects such as team leadership and contract law are also covered in detail. All topics will be supplemented with practical exercises focusing primarily on the areas of electrical/electronic (including instrumentation) and mechanical engineering. If delegates wish to do so, they can choose small projects from their work environment as a basis for the practical exercises.

Part 3 - L4MS Open Call introduction
L4MS is launching two open calls in 2018 and 2019 to fund application experiments validating the rapid deployment of mobile robots in manufacturing SMEs and mid-caps through virtualization. The pilots will demonstrate reducing installation time and cost by a factor of 10 using the OPIL integration platform and 3D simulator. L4MS offers support for designing automated logistics systems, digital twins of factories in the simulator, connecting robots and sensors to ERP/MES software, trainings, and up to €250k in funding for experimentation. Example projects include designing new AGV systems, integrating existing AGVs to improve flexibility, and optimizing task planning and monitoring.

- 4. Pitching – the rules • 7 minutes for pitch based on information from the ‘Technical proposal and an outline of the Business plans’ • 5 minutes for additional questions (by panel of judges*) • Pitching slots announced on the day • No additional time given * L4MS consortium members and potentially industry experts invited to the event
- 5. Scoring criteria Business case and business KPIs • Detailed analysis of logistics automation as compared to the existing situation in the factory • Expert analysis done together with EiR. 3D simulation of the experiment (readiness and scale) • Only logistics simulation will be carried out. Non-OPIL Simulation is required. 40% 20% Requirement specifications and technical KPIs • Technical requirements specifications and the factory use-case (i.e. Load specifications, Pallet size, Factory map) • Software requirements specifications (i.e. sensors, timing, connected robots) 40%
- 6. Scoring process • Each appointed juror gives 1 score per criterium • The scores are weighted and summed up • Projects are ranked and the Jury Panel announces the 6 projects moving to Stage 2 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 FAIL EXCELLENT
- 7. Pitching tips • Address ALL the criteria • Start with a general introduction of your project • Create a story: begin with a challenge and give solution • Keep the presentation clear and concise • KPIs have to show the potential impact, be realistic and measurable

Pitching tips • Practice the pitch with a timer • It’s easier to focus on 1 presenter than a few people • Use any form: official L4MS PPT template, your own canvas, etc. • Additional materials (i.e. videos, plans/drawings, simulations) are always good • Presentations have to be sent in before May 6, 2019.
