The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a national scholarship program funded by the Government of India's Department of Science and Technology. It aims to support students showing aptitude for research careers in science. Students in Class 11, 12, or 1st year undergraduate programs in basic sciences can apply. If selected, scholars receive monthly stipends and annual contingency grants of Rs. 5000-7000 and Rs. 20,000-28,000 respectively for undergraduate and postgraduate studies at top research institutes across India. The program includes opportunities like direct admission to institutes, summer camps, lab access, and fellowship renewal based on academic performance.

1. KVPY
The National Scholarship program of which the Department of Science and Technology of the
Government of India is the funding organization is KVPY or Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana.
Students who wish to pursue their higher studies in basic science courses or have a desire to establish a
career in research can apply for the Scholarship. Moreover candidates who get selected are being offered
the contingency grants upto Ph.D Level under this programme.
Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore administers the whole program. The shortlisted candidates are also
offered admission directly in the famous science research institutes located across India. Aim of the
program is to find students who have plenty of talent and aptitude for research; help them realize their
academic potential; encourage them to take up research careers in Science and make sure about their
growth of the best scientific minds for research and development in the country.
Candidates also have the option of renewal, i.e. the fellowship can be renewed every year depending upon
the academic performance of the fellow, participation and satisfactory performance in the Summer Camp
in the first year and summer project every year.
Institutes offering direct admission to KVPY fellows are All-India Institute of Scientific Education and

Eligibility Criteria: Both Male and Female studying in Class 11, Class 12 and 1st year students
of undergraduate Program in Basic Sciences are eligible to apply. Students with POI and OCI card are not
eligible. If planning to pursue/ pursuing undergraduate higher studies from distance education then also
you are not eligible to apply. Oops pursuing B.Tech/ MBBS they you can’t be a part of KVPY
Fellowship.

2. KVPY Summer Program: All the selected fellows are offered a golden opportunity to be a part of the
extravaganza Summer Program. The summer program is being conducted at the Indian Institute for
Science Education and Research (IISER) – Trivandrum, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune and Bhopal for a week.
Many other advantages that are offered to fellows:Fellows can visit and explore the National
Laboratories/ Universities. Candidates need to produce the ID Card that has been issued to them when
they visit the laboratories who have decided to provide special privileges like laboratory facilities, library
and many more
Renewal ofthe Fellowship:
Every year the felowships are being renewed on the basis of the academic performance of the candidates
(60%) as well as participation and satisfactory performance in the Summer Camp in the first year and
summer project every year.
Candidates who have been selected under stream SA/SX/SB will be offered the amount after the Class 12
or 1st year UG or 10+2, provided they do their higher studies in an undergraduate course in Basic
Sciences.
