Creative Spaces Event 1 presentation.
Beth Dynowski Co founder of the Pipe Factory art space in Glasgow, gives an inspiring and honest account on the experience of developing a creative space. The presentation also covers some of the learning points - the do's 'n' don'ts to inform any groups of Creatives who are considering setting up a space.
We know that club meetings can become boring, repetitive, predicable, and unwelcoming to existing members, let alone potential new members. How do we improve our experiences? Let’s share our stories, explore challenges and successes together, and create an action plan to improve our meetings — and consequently our membership.

Kudoz & the Fifth Space are two prototypes that we are currently working on in the disability field in British Columbia, Canada. This slide deck is a short summary about what they are and why.
Presentation from 2019.
Open Knowledge is not something that is taught in schools, and Open Source is an afterthought for companies. So how can we inspire the next generation, and the organisations of the future to be open? Open Summer of Code does just that. Osoc is a 4-week summer programme in July, that provices Belgian based students the training, network and support necessary to discover the possibilities and impact of Open Innovation projects.

Assignment #5:
DISABILITY CULTURE PLUNGE
20 points
Overview:
A culture plunge can be defined as exposure to a culture that is different from our own and, in this class specifically, the culture of disability. For some of you, you may already identify as being familiar with disability culture. If so, you will need to explore an arena of disability culture that you are not as familiar with. For many of you though, this may be your first time interacting or being involved with the disability community. Either way, we are very excited to read about your experiences! It is normal for you to feel nervous, intimidated, or even fearful about this assignment, but we hope that this experience proves to be valuable and memorable and that the impact will transcend beyond your time at school.
You are required to engage with individuals who identify as being a part of the Disability Community. You are expected to be respectful and thoughtful with the different organizations and people you come across.
This is not an opportunity for you to be inspired by an individual's ability to do “day-to-day” tasks. It is an opportunity for you to discover how people with disabilities must adapt their lives in order to integrate into their communities. You will be expected to discover what actually “disables” them and what provides them with access. You will discover or enhance your understanding of human connectedness.
Although you may be serving your community at your disability culture plunge event, this is not for the purpose of community service credit. The purpose is to immerse yourself into a culture with which you were previously unfamiliar and to learn from the people of that culture.
As this is a college level course, the expectation is for you to take the ideas we present in class and see how those concepts apply to people who live this experience daily.
Important criteria for culture plunges as described in the course syllabus are:
· The majority or a large proportion of people there identify as someone who is disabled
· This must be a type of experience you’ve never had before
· The plunge takes place after this course begins (credit cannot be given for past experiences)
· You must be focused on qualitative interactions and not on taking notes
· Although the event may be a charity-based event, you are not there out of charity, but out of intrigue and interest in getting to know people with disabilities as equals
· The plunge lasts at least one hour
Ideas for Valuable Culture Plunge Opportunities
You can reference Blackboard for some DCP examples. You are also encouraged to find local organizations in the community that are not listed.
· Disability and LGBTQIA + organizations
· Disability and the farming community
· Homeless population and the variety of disabilities represented
· Adults with developmental disabilities
· Mental Illness and different ethnic groups
· Deaf and hard-of-hearing community
· Adaptive sports opportunities

Burning Man is a unique gathering of people in the desert where community, possibility and creative expression are the foundations for an experience unlike any other on Earth. If companies like Google have successfully injected Burning Man principles into their culture and benefited from it, what might it mean for your company's culture? How do we foster new possibilities and build a stronger sense of community within our organizations using guidance from the Burning Man experience?

A process server is a authorized person for delivering legal documents, such as summons, complaints, subpoenas, and other court papers, to peoples involved in legal proceedings.
2. Kudoz is part of a larger movement towards ongoing learning
and alternative credentialing for people with cognitive disability
in British Columbia. Based on social cognitive career choice
theory, Kudoz broadens & deepens interests, expands networks,
and creates a new way for employers to recognize talent.
3. In Kudoz, folks with cognitive disabilities choose a badge that they
would like to earn from the catalogue. As part of the process of earning
the badge, they would go on learning experiences which are hosted
by people in the communities, including business owners, freelancers,
caring citizens, students, and staff members in the agencies.
4. Individuals do not just go on learning experiences, they also get together
in small groups for a conversation at Kudoz Reflection Café all over the
city. They share pictures, ask each other questions, or spend some time
journaling or drawing or doing whatever helps them make sense of the
things we’re doing. Because without reflecting, there’s no learning!
5. Just like what Aaron – one of the first 15 individuals to try out Kudoz whom we
lovingly called Kudoers – said: Kudoz enabled him to explore different interests
that were not available for him before. By continuing to meet new hosts, we hope
Aaron will expand his network. And through that network, we think roles and
opportunities will come. He has been offered to take up a 8-week course with Kim,
a professional comedian, after he went on a comedy experience with her!
6. Congratulations to all of Kudoers, Hosts, family
members and Reflection Assistants for the new skills
you have picked up, the new things you have learned
about yourself, and the new network you have created!
7. We want to grow the Kudoz movement. So that many more small
business owners, freelancers, students, and retirees see Kudoz as
a rich and fulling way to share and deepen their own interests and
passions. A tipping point. Where adults with and without cognitive
disabilities are interacting meaningfully - and developing together.
For us, that’s what community inclusion really means.
8. We have a big vision in Kudoz and we know we
have a long way to go. We will consolide what
we have learned during the trial period of Kudoz
and fundraise for the future.
