Kolla Project Update at OpenStack Summit Vancouver in May 2018. Kolla provides production-ready containers and deployment tools for OpenStack clouds. Key announcements included Kolla Queens being the 6th release with over 210 images, plans for Kolla Rocky including Ceph Luminous support and documentation overhaul, and kolla-ansible Queens features such as Prometheus monitoring and more rolling upgrade services. The globally distributed Kolla community was also discussed.

For the last 15 years, his main work has been in the areas of system and cluster management, for which he has received over a dozen patents. Most recently, Jerry has worked on the automated construction of Kubernetes clusters and generation of Kubernetes application definitions from graphical models and Docker compose files.
Over his 30+ year career, he has developed firmware, compilers, database mapping tools, and a cluster management expert system. Jerry is the author of “Java by Example”, one of the first books available about Java. When he isn’t working, Jerry loves to run and read science fiction.
Heat Updates - Liberty Edition
The OpenStack Heat project update from July 2015 summarizes the Kilo release and previews plans for the upcoming Liberty release. Key accomplishments of the Kilo release included 74 implemented blueprints, 389 fixed bugs, and over 1100 code commits. New Kilo features improved nested stacks and added template functions, while new resources included alarms, volumes, and identity services. Upcoming changes in Liberty will add resources for encryption, monitoring, and containers, move tests and documentation into the Heat project, and focus on convergence and role-based availability of resources.

During the last two years Andreas, Christian, and Wolfgang gained a lot of experience with Docker and were thrilled by its possible impact early on. Andreas started working with Docker in mid-2013 and is interested in developing tools for solving Enterprise IT requirements on networking and security. In 2014 he held talks and workshops about these topics. Christian started using Docker in 2013 to virtualize a complete HPC cluster stack and since then held multiple talks about how Docker might impact HPC. Wolfgang and his partner Burak Yenier introduced Docker as a corner-stone of the UberCloud Marketplace to drastically improve and simplify access to HPC cloud resources. Docker+java
Docker provides lightweight virtualization using containers. It allows applications to be packaged with their dependencies and run consistently across environments. Java applications can be containerized using Docker to enable continuous delivery, running the same environment for development, testing, and production. The Docker ecosystem is growing with many tools and platforms supporting containerization of Java applications.
KubeOne
KubeOne is an open source tool for managing the lifecycle of Kubernetes clusters, including installing, upgrading, and decommissioning clusters on major cloud providers and on-premises. It uses tools like kubeadm and Kubermatic machine-controller to provision clusters in a declarative way. The presentation demonstrates installing a highly available Kubernetes cluster on AWS using KubeOne by defining a cluster manifest and running the install command.
Openshift: Build, deploy & manage open, standard containers
OpenShift is a container platform for deploying and managing containerized applications. It uses Kubernetes for orchestration and Docker containers. OpenShift provides developers a way to build, deploy and manage applications throughout the lifecycle using containers and provides operations with stability, security and resource management tools. It supports choice of programming languages, continuous deployment and integration, and scaling of applications.

It uses tools like kubeadm and Kubermatic machine-controller to provision clusters in a declarative way. The presentation demonstrates installing a highly available Kubernetes cluster on AWS using KubeOne by defining a cluster manifest and running the install command.
Openshift: Build, deploy & manage open, standard containers
OpenShift is a container platform for deploying and managing containerized applications. It uses Kubernetes for orchestration and Docker containers. OpenShift provides developers a way to build, deploy and manage applications throughout the lifecycle using containers and provides operations with stability, security and resource management tools.
