Movements of the knee joint:
1- Flexion:By the Hamstringmuscles+ gracilis,gastrocnemius,sartorius,popliteus,plantaris
2- Extension:By the Quadricepsfemoris+ tensor fascialatae.
3- Locking of the knee joint= medial rotationof the femur on the tibia infull extension(or lateral
rotationof the tibia) . It occurs by Biceps femoris.
4- Unlockingofthe Knee: In standing(tibiafixed) = lateral rotationof femur on tibia,Insupine or
sitting(tibiafree) = Medial rotation oftibia.By popliteus+ sartorius,gracilis,semitendinosusand
semimembrenosus.
