Colonel Harland Sanders started Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) in 1930 by opening a restaurant in Corbin, Kentucky called Sanders Court & Cafe. In the 1940s, he developed his secret recipe of 11 herbs and spices for pressure frying chicken. In the 1950s, Sanders began franchising his chicken recipe and grew his business across the United States. By the 1960s, KFC had over 600 franchised locations globally and continued expanding internationally. Sanders sold his company for $2 million in 1964. KFC became a publicly traded company in 1966 and was later acquired by PepsiCo and spun off into its own company called Yum! Brands, which owns KFC, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut.
