2. Mission Statement
The mission of the Douglas County School Library Media
Program is to support the county curriculum, to provide
quality print and electronic resources, to assist students
and staff in becoming effective users of information, and
to promote lifelong learning.
3. Purpose of the Mission Statement:
The purpose of the Mission statement is to develop a
shared sense of mission, to provide equitable access to
information and create a climate conducive to learning
for students and staff members. Another purpose is to
support the curriculum goals of the district.
4. Ways To Improve the Mission Statement:
Instead of stating that it wants to promote lifelong learning, it could state
promote technology based lifelong learning.
Use vernacular that aligns more with the 21st century learning environment
such as, critical thinking, collaboration and digital literacy.
Add to the statement “provide quality print and electronic resources that meet
the needs of individual learners.” This statement will reflect more up to date
practices.
Include a statement that relates to the physical space of the library that is
inclusive to all types of learners with various degrees of mobility.
