Keep Lincoln Park Public Petition Comments
1. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β I'm tired of Parker & Latin being able to right their own rules in this neighborhood. If they want a soccer field, fine but it should be a public field available for everyone, not just Latin to use!β - Lori Howard
2. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β This is outrageous. Lincoln Park belongs to the people of Chicago -- and we do not go to Lincoln Park to see Astroturf. I find it difficult to believe there was no other place for this to be built, and no opportunity for public discussion.β - Jane Gaitskill
3. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β It's βpublicβ land, since when is City of Chicago. giving away prime location land to any builders or business? Let Latin pay market rates for the use of it just as any land developer would have to, i.e., millions and millions and put that into our streets and improving the 'public' schools. β - Charles Grode
4. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β Please stop this !!!!β - Kimmi Allen
5. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β It is sad and unfortunate to take the little public park space this city has to offer and give it to a private entity. β - Claire Jaksich
6. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β There are so many great alternatives to create monetized opportunities for the CPD. That area could be recreated to benefit everyone that walks that path for whatever reason. There are people from all over the world that stop before they cross the bridge. Why not make this area something wonderful, for everyone. I'd publicize this as the city is trying to win the Olympics. Do you know how many people will walk that path and see that eyesore. It diminishes the value of Lincoln Park and Chicago. β - Anonymous
7. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β All of our parks are intended for use by the public, free of charge and free of private privately used structures, advertising and artificial turf. The beauty and integrity of Lincoln Park is an amenity that belongs to all people in Chicago not just a few well connected special interests.β - Enid Winters
8. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β Very distressing to see this simply rammed through. This is NOT how the process is supposed to work. And NOT what Lincoln Park is supposed to be. The soccer field project needs to be stopped.β - Alan Rose
9. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β This privatization process began a long time ago with the City getting rid of so many union jobs, extended to the Park District who did the same and then began charging for everything. This is the ultimate.β - Mimi Harris
10. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β I have lived in Lincoln Park for 34 years, and even had a child at the Latin School. I am opposed to this private deal with the Latin School.β - Ted Jadwin
11. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β I don't believe it is right for a public park to be sold off for a private school's use. I know that all over the city private lands have taken chunks of what had been public parks and it has to stop with our most well known and cherished park!β - Anonymous
12. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β As a teacher in Old Town, I occasionally take my first grade class to the park. Latin School has banned us from prime play space, because they claim it's reserved for their use only. As a Chicago resident, and an active runner on the lakefront path, I find this deal with Latin School to be very upsetting.β - Anonymous
13. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β This land grab by a private school of public property is shocking. Who has the authority to do such a deed?β - Anita Conway
14. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β Why should anyone have to do anything to keep this stunning public place, public? it should not even be a question?β - Kevin Ryan
15. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β Chicago Park Districts should never have overt conflicts of interest!!! Unprecedented move-stop it now!!!!!!β - Jacqueline Brewer
16. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β This is simply a outrageous land grab by Latin School. They have some extremely wealthy parents. They should ask for donations from these rich parents in order to buy the land south of the school.β - Kenneth Wolf
17. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β Keep Lincoln Park free and open.β - Yohma Gray
18. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β Void the contract and give us back our park.β - Coleen Blake
19. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β Taking away the rights of 99+% of park users to enjoy this space with their own activities, solitary, as well as fairs, exhibitions, etc which do not impose any insult to the landscape, strikes me as incredibly selfish, insensitive and disrespectful of the rights of others, to whom this park belongs just as much as it does to the 1% who will use this facility.β - Lita Grier
20. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β Shame on Chicago Park District and & The Latin School for sneaky dealing and elitist attitude. Civics as taught at Latin? β - Patricia Yeray
21. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β This deal is outrageous. Stop the Latin School land grab!β - Thomas Tresser
22. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β I strongly oppose the Latin School using a public park for its own interests. As a taxpayer, the idea that the Latin School is proposing the use is an insult. Is it not bad enough that the school is rotting away the area like a bad cavity?β - Don Bauer
23. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β Keep our park system open and free to everyone!β - Jacqueline Papadopoulos
24. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β I use this part of the park every weekend in the summer. It's great for catch, frisbee. This is shameful!β - Lauren Beth
25. The People Speak - Comments from our online petition. β I couldn't agree more. I was outraged to learn that this secret development was in play and can't thank this group enough for taking the initiative to stop this corruption of public land!!!!β - Stephanie Wagner
