Year One Summary
The first year of Pacoima To-
day has allowed us to voice our con-
cerns for the community. We learned
that many in Pacoima share the is-
sues we have written about.
Our initial goal was to reach
the residents and inspire as many as
possible to learn that they are not
alone in their interest in basic “Quality
of Life “ issues.
Our second concern was to
ensure that the elected officials were
in tune to the conditions as they exist
in this community. We felt that we
would provide photographs as proof
that our accusations were accurate
and truthful.
The most rewarding moments
are when we are introduced to per-
sons we have not previously known
and they express an appreciation for
the newsletter.
We don’t profess to know it
all, we just share that which is obvi-
ous to the naked eye. We know that
everyone see’s the problem, and un-
derstand that not everyone will take
the time to contact the city code en-
forcement agencies.
We are also aware that from
time to time, individuals who work for
the city and county, will have a bad
day.
We feel that we hold the ulti-
mate responsibility to monitor those
we depend on to keep our communi-
ty safe and livable.
We ask that all who receive
the Pacoima Today Newsletter share
it with their neighbors, family and
friends in the area.
The ultimate hope is that you
teach others to actively work for the
good of their neighbors.

“Wake Up Pacoima”
Headline of the first issue was written to mo-
tivate our residents to participating in the improve-
ment of this community . The article was to inform
the residents that the trashy condition of Pacoima
was part of their fault. It was important that the citi-
zens be told that they could do much to improve the
quality of life where they live.
“Pacoima City Hall”
Written to call the community’s attention to
the multi-million dollar building constructed by the
City of Los Angeles which remained empty for years.
The two story building sat empty, was later utilized
to house only four members of CD7 staff.
“Curbside Living”
This was an effort to awake Pacoima to the
dangers proposed by individuals living at the
curbside in motorhomes and campers. These are
transition people whom little is known. They violating
the city’s 72 hours parking limitations. As they sit for
weeks, they may dump their ’black water’ at the curb
in front of your house.
“Pacoima Neighborhood Council”
This was written to inform the community of
the Neighborhood Council and it’s benefit to the resi-
dents. It is important for the community to be aware
of the PNC’s’ purpose, schedule meetings and loca-
tion. The PNC is an avenue to the Councilman office.
“Safety Concerns”
Made an effort to provide the community
with the availability of the Los Angeles Police Depart-
ment Senior Lead Officers. Encourage the community
to contact the SLO’s for chronic problems.
“Crowded Sidewalks”
Published photos of crowed sidewalks along
Van Nuys Blvd and the many locations of illegal sales
on fences, and curbside (autos, boats and appliances)
through out the community. Obvious violations of
the Los Angeles Municipal Code.

“Los Angeles Board of Pubic Works”
Los Angeles Board of Public Works re-
cently stated it is looking forward with the pub-
lic to improve the Quality of Life Issues in the
city.
“Street Services”
The Bureau of Street Services is respon-
sible for maintenance of streets, alleys, medi-
ans and sidewalks. The Bureau is also responsi-
ble for the remove weeds, illegally dumped
trash, other hazards.
“Vote, Speak –up / Don’t Vote. Shut –up”
Voting is the most important act a citi-
zen can perform. Learn all you can about the
candidates and propositions and cast your bal-
lot.
“Nobody Questions or Nobody Cares?”
When there are no questions asked our
elected city officials they think “...all is well…”
As a resident of the 7th Council District you
have a right to ask questions of your Council-
man and his staff.
“Only In Pacoima”
Does anyone know why the City of Los
Angeles decided to donate the well ran and
well kept “Pacoima Youth and Family Center” to
“El Nido” organization?
“Parking Enforcement in Pacoima”
The Los Angeles Municipal Code limits
vehicle parking to a continuous 72 hours with
out movement. Curb side living as many motor
home owners tend to do is also illegal.

“No Confidence vote on DONE”
The PNC scheduled a no-confidence vote on
DONE’s Management. The General Manager,
Grayce Liu attended a meeting and explained the
issues and the no-confidence vote was postponed.
“Prizes to Boost Voting”
The privilege of living is a democracy is
“PRIZE enough for voting. Elections at the local lev-
er has a large effect on our daily life: driving laws,
minimum wages, immigration, education funding
and many other serious issues.
“CD-7 Councilman Visit PNC”
Councilman Felipe Fuente occasionally visit
the PNC and talk to the stakeholders. Every PNC
meeting staff members of the elected officials are in
attendance to listen to your issues.
“Did You Know?”
The City of Los Angeles spends millions of
your tax dollars to construct buildings and turn
them over to non-profits for $1.00 per year. Or that
they construct buildings that they can not staff.
YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK ?
“Community Quality of Life Officer”
This article was written to request a city po-
sition to hire someone to Patrol the district and
contact City Code Enforcement Agencies to get situ-
ations resolved. Recent learned that CD7 staff and
LALD SLOs are handling this function.
“Department of Neighborhood Empowerment”
Is DONE doing everything it can to assist the
PNC to serve the community? Some feel DON
should be more active,
“Prettiest Place in Pacoima”
The prettiest place in Pacoima is the Hansen
Dam Golf Course. The beautiful trees and well kept
lawns exist no where else in Pacoima. Every week-
end 18 wheeled tractor trailers illegally block the
view. These commercial vehicles are only allowed
to park on city streets for 3.5 hours. These trucks
park from Friday to Monday.

“Pacoima Beautiful, Where?”
Every block of this community is littered
with mattress, sofas, discarded furniture and as-
sorted trash. Sales on every corner, fence vacant
lots and every open street. All in violation of Los
Angeles Municipal Code.

“The Importance of Pacoima Today”
Inform the citizens of their options and re-
sponsibilities in improvement of Pacoima. A second
importance is to inform city elected officials of the
condition as they exist.

Pacoima seems to have a lot of illegal trash
dumpers. Many of the residents are pleased with
the city efforts to remove the trash, but others ask
for some degree of prevention. Like arrest & prose-
cution.
“What’s Wrong With Pacoima?”
Too many of it’s residents do not take an
active part in the various community organizations.
Every community need the residents to work with
them, if any progress can be achieved.
“Disappointed , One by One”
When a resident contact a city code en-
forcement agency and do not receive the services
expected or promised, call the City Councilman’s
Office.

“ Is this the New Pacoima?”
Who is responsible for enforcing the laws
governing street side and curb side sales. Every
block is an open air store. Fences are lined with sec-
ond hand clothes, every block have 3 to 4cars “for
sale”.
“Shopping Carts in Every Block”
We all have a responsibility to encourage our
neighbors not to remove shopping carts from the
local stores. The cost of each lost cart is passed on
the other customers. You.
“Eye Sores, Nuisances and Blight”
These issues should be reported to the city.

STOP, LOOK AND LISTEN BEFORE
CROSSING A STREET. Teach this to the whole

“Electronic Waste”
Electronic waste presents the community
with hazardous chemicals. Insure proper disposal.
“New to Pacoima”
Do we need another bar in Pacoima? There is
no parking on Van Nuys after 10:00pm. Where do
the patrons park? The PNC and the councilman sup-
ported this?
“Bradley Plaza”
A Nice little park. Who will provide the
maintenance?
“$1.3 Billion River Project”
The city had to downside the quantity of city
employees, services cutback, fees raised, streets
need repairs, sidewalks are in need of repairs, street
cleaning has been cut, park maintenance placed on
hold.
Where do we get the $1.3 billon for a river
project?

The PNC mission is to improve the quality of
life by promoting participation of the residents, the
delivery of city services, and empowering the resi-
dents by sharing information.

We want to thank Council District 7 staff for
their efforts in getting illegal dumped trash removed
from the community. There are many other Code
violations in Pacoima and we will request your assis-
tance on solving them.
“Attention Council District 7”
It is estimated that 30% of the single homes
in Pacoima are in violation of LAMC Sec.80.71.3
(Parking on front Lawns)
“California High Speed Rail”
The California High speed Rail Authority (HSR)
is hosting through out the San Fernando Valley. They
are promoting a 200MPH through the middle of
Pacoima. All are invited to attend the HSR meetings
and voice their opinions.
