KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
I am a qualified Tech 2 Operations Technician for oil and gas
operations with over six years experience. I have specialised as a
panel (board) operator at Exxon Mobil’s Longford crude
stabilisation plant and gas plants.
As part of my panel technician rotations I operate the following
panels and generic areas in/for; crude stabilisation plant, lean oil
gas and condensate recovery plant, two cryogenic gas and
condensate recovery plants.
I am also qualified as a production control room technician who
has responsibilities in the coordination of oil and gas flows,
communications and emergency response for fourteen manned
offshore oil and gas platforms in the Bass Strait.
In these roles emergency response is of primary importance should
any incident occur. At Longford Operations, technicians are the
primary responders to emergencies, particularly at nights and on
weekends, when back up is not readily available.
Safety is paramount in this industry and the use of job safety
analysis tools and following of procedures is essential.
When operating a panel duties include:
Constant monitoring of oil and gas plants.
Maintaining oil and gas specifications for downstream customers.
Interfacing with outside area operators to start and stop equipment
and to investigate problems.
Maintaining plants in safe operating condition.
Restarting of plants from shutdown.
Stabilising plants after plant upsets.
Shutting down plants if and when required.
Troubleshooting the cause of plant upsets and rectification of
faults.
When in generic outside areas I have responsibilities for:
Emergency response
Surveillance.
Permit to work system (this includes general, hot work, confined
space and electrical permits).
Ensuring the workplace is safe for maintenance activities to occur.
Responding to panel technician requests.
Isolations of equipment including draining.
Draining, De-pressuring and purging of equipment for
maintenance.
De-isolation, air freeing, leak and pressure testing of equipment
after maintenance. Then return to service.

February 2009 to Current – Esso (Exxon Mobil) Operations Technician 2
I started at Longford as a trainee, gaining tech one qualifications after two years, then tech two
qualifications eighteen months later. Not long after, I volunteered to gain qualifications as a PCR
production control room panel technician, responsible for interface with fourteen manned offshore
platforms in the Bass Strait.
February 2001 to February 2009 – Omega Tower Communications Pty. Ltd.
I was employed as an experienced electronics technician who then contracted to the Navy as director of the
company providing maintenance services at Woodside Naval Transmitting Station.
In 2001, myself and two other employees of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) formed the
company Omega Tower Communications Pty. Ltd. to continue the operation and maintenance of the
facility for the Navy after AMSA no longer wished to continue its contract with the Navy. My role at the
station included monitoring and maintenance at the Naval Transmitting Station near Woodside. This
included shift work and being on call for emergency maintenance.
I was involved in numerous modifications to the transmission and monitoring equipment at the station. I
worked both independently and with a team to complete fault diagnosis and maintenance. I was an integral
part of the team that created and implemented the Quality system for the company. The company attained
and has maintained ISO 9001:2000 accreditation.
It was important to our company to place safety at the forefront of our operations. We created and
maintained the company’s Occupational Health and Safety systems that were constantly reviewed to
provide the highest level of safety. Numerous changes to work practices and procedures had resulted over
the years as a result of our efforts. I was involved in all the major modification projects of the facility. I
was also involved in designing and creating systems and procedures such as maintenance schedules that
allowed for smooth and efficient operation and maintenance of the facility. This position also included
outdoor maintenance of the surrounding facility.
February 1998 to February 2001 – Australian Maritime Safety Authority
I was employed by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority at the Naval Transmitting Station near
Woodside since February 1998 as an electronics technician. During this time I worked as part of the team
responsible for the modification of the Omega Navigation Facility to a Naval Transmitting Station. This
involved modifying the tuning and control circuitry to allow Minimum Shift Keying (MSK) transmissions.
I developed a software programme using Visual Basic for Applications (Excel) for the review of daily
transmitter data/statistics. I was also involved in the development of a Visual Basic programme for the
automatic notification form of outages prepared for the Navy.

My general duties included the maintenance and monitoring of the transmitter and associated equipment.
This also involved helping contractors to repair and maintain the generator, general facilities and fixed
plant and equipment.
I was part of the team that developed and reviewed the quality plan for the Naval Transmitting Station.
This involved the review of daily and weekly logs, the evaluation of the spare parts inventory and the
creation of an inventory database.
January 1995 to February 1998 - HS748 Avionics Modification Cell - Training Aircraft
Logistics Management Squadron (TALMS) - RAAF East Sale
I was posted to the HS748 modification cell in TALMS. I was part of the team involved in the
development of HS748 aircraft avionics system modifications. This included the development of post
modification test schedules and the writing of maintenance manual amendments.
During this time I also performed the duties of assistant to the TALMS local area computer network
system administrator. From July 1996 to February 1997 I took over the full time duties of the TALMS
local area network systems administrator (with no previous training) in which I was responsible for the
maintenance and upgrades of hardware and software problems associated with the network. To highlight
the high level of work I performed in this area I was awarded a commendation by the Air Vice-Marshall of
Logistics Command. The TALMS network incorporated approximately 90 computer terminals and 80
users. I filled this position until a permanent civilian system administrator was employed.
January 1989 to January 1995 - Maintenance Squadron (subsequently 32SQN) - RAAF
East Sale
I was posted to Maintenance Squadron at East Sale and worked on rotation between the avionics workshop
and the HS748 avionics hangar.
My workshop duties included the repair, down to component level of instrumentation, communications,
navigation and radar equipment. Repair of electronics equipment involved high reliability soldering and
multi-layer circuit board repair.
My HS748 aircraft avionics hangar duties included the repair of HS748 communications, navigation, radar
and power supply systems and general HS748 maintenance and servicing. Other HS748 duties included
accompanying the aircraft away on deployment which required the maintenance and repair of the aircraft
away from base.
My duties also included the responsibilities of trade supervisor in the last two years at 32SQN.
January 1987 to January 1989 - Royal Australian Air Force School of Radio Laverton
(RADS)
I joined the Royal Australian Air Force in Jan 87 on No 41 Radio Apprentice Course at the RAAF School
of Radio. I graduated in December 1988.
