Kamailio® (successor of former OpenSER and SER) is an Open Source SIP Server released under GPL, able to handle thousands of call setups per second. Kamailio can be used to build large platforms for VoIP and realtime communications – presence, WebRTC, Instant messaging and other applications. Moreover, it can be easily used for scaling up SIP-to-PSTN gateways, PBX systems or media servers like Asterisk™, FreeSWITCH™ or SEMS.
The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is the dominant signaling protocol used in VoIP today. It is
responsible for the establishment, control and termination of sessions by exchanging ASCII-text-based
messages between the endpoints. This post goes through the basic components of SIP: messages and
logical entities.

This presentation features a walk through the Linux kernel networking stack for users and developers. It will cover insights into both, existing essential networking features and recent developments and will show how to use them properly. Our starting point is the network card driver as it feeds a packet into the stack. We will follow the packet as it traverses through various subsystems such as packet filtering, routing, protocol stacks, and the socket layer. We will pause here and there to look into concepts such as networking namespaces, segmentation offloading, TCP small queues, and low latency polling and will discuss how to configure them.
Talk given at ClueCon 2016 that discusses FreeSWITCH and its place in a microservices architecture. Covers a specific deployment case using Docker and Adhearsion, along with certain features that make FreeSWITCH a model use-case for such a technology stack.
