Kaavya Viswanathan's debut novel, "How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild, Got Life" was accused of plagiarizing passages from Megan McCafferty's books "Sloppy Firsts" and "Second Helpings". Viswanathan, who was a student at Harvard Law School, had her book pulled from shelves after readers noticed significant similarities between descriptions, scenes and characters. While Viswanathan claimed the similarities were coincidental, it was determined to be plagiarism as she had directly copied 14 words from one of McCafferty's books. The incident occurred in 2006 at Harvard Law School in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts.
