India has a rich diversity of wildlife with over 8,900 animal species due to its varied geography. It is home to elephants, tigers, lions, rhinos and many bird and marine species. However, many wild animals are now endangered due to habitat loss, poaching, and human-wildlife conflict. The government has established wildlife sanctuaries and national parks to protect endangered species and their habitats, and has enacted wildlife protection laws. Ongoing conservation efforts include environmental education, celebrating wildlife days, maintaining a balance between predators and prey, and providing care for animals.
The Chipko movement was a non-violent movement started in the 1970s by Indian villagers to protect forests. They resisted the cutting down of trees by hugging the trees to prevent them from being felled. The movement aimed to conserve forests which are crucial for villagers' livelihoods and the environment. It was sparked by the government allocating forest land to a company, angering villagers whose own requests had been denied. Led by activists like Chandi Prasad Bhatt and Sunderlal Bahuguna, the movement saw victories like a 15-year ban on tree felling in Uttar Pradesh in 1980. The Chipko movement continues to protect forests through nonviolent means.
Project tiger and wild life conservation in indiaDeepali Dhiware
The document discusses wildlife conservation efforts in India, including both in-situ and ex-situ conservation. It focuses on national parks, sanctuaries, and Project Tiger in particular. Project Tiger was launched in 1973 to protect tigers in India and has established many reserves across nine states. The latest tiger census in India found a population of 1571 to 1875 tigers across 17 states.
The Silent Valley movement was a social movement in the 1970s and 1980s aimed at protecting the Silent Valley forest in Kerala, India from being flooded by a proposed hydroelectric project. The undisturbed tropical rainforest was under threat as the state government planned to build a dam in the 1960s. Environmentalists started campaigning in 1973 to save the forest, which is home to the largest population of critically endangered lion-tailed macaques. After years of debate, the government eventually abandoned the project in 1983 and declared Silent Valley a national park in 1985 due to concerns over destroying the unique ecosystem.

It discusses the diverse wildlife species found in India, from tigers and elephants to snakes and monkeys, which are preserved in numerous national parks, biosphere reserves, and wildlife sanctuaries. Key conservation programs are highlighted like Project Tiger to protect endangered species. The presentation covers the history of colonial forest policies in India and the various types of protected areas established for wildlife conservation.
Tigers are the largest wild cats in the world, but their numbers have declined drastically from about 100,000 a century ago to less than 5000 today globally and less than 1200 in India. This is due to loss of habitat, conflicts with humans, and poaching. In 1972, the Indian government established Project Tiger to protect tigers and their habitats by creating tiger reserves. Currently there are 50 tiger reserves across 18 states in India focused on maintaining viable tiger populations and preserving critical habitats. While government initiatives have helped tiger numbers rebound in some areas, continued conservation efforts are needed to further protect tigers and their forest homes.
Jim Corbett was a British hunter and conservationist famous for hunting man-eating tigers and leopards in India in the early 20th century. He authored several books recounting his experiences. Later in life, he advocated for wildlife conservation and played a key role in establishing Jim Corbett National Park in India to protect tigers. The park was named after him in recognition of his conservation efforts. He spent his retirement in Kenya, where he continued writing until his death in 1955.

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UPRAHUL
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
