I posit that Occidental College violates Title IX by acting with deliberate indifference in regards to sexual assault and rape. To determine whether my hypothesis is correct, I measured students’ attitudes of sexual assault on campus using a campus-wide blog. Case Study: Examining the Reasons Why Women Stay
with Their Abusive Male Partner.
Domestic violence is quite common in many forms in today’s contemporary society. In fact, domestic violence is more prevalent than it was in the past. In most of the cases of domestic violence, women tend to be victims more than men are. The woman in the relationship is often faced with the hard position of making the decision to leave or not. A number of factors often deter women from making the decision to leave their abusive lovers. These factors are often social/cultural, economic and or psychological (Loveisrespect.org, 2013). They depend on the nature or the status of the relationship and those in it.

Dziegielewski S. F., Campbell K. & Turnage B. F. (2005). Domestic Violence: Focus Groupsfrom the Survivors’ Perspective. Retrieved.
The authors did a study to find out why women who were in abusive relationships or were married were unable to leave. To carry out the study they grouped such women into three; the first group consisted of those who had a desire to leave, group two consisted of those women who already had a plan and lastly group three were women who had left and had no expectations of going back. They then asked them to write down the reasons why they had planned as above or could not do as above.
The authors found out that the reasons given by the three categories of women had similarity in terms of context. Despite the status to which they already belonged, they had similar reasons for leaving or returning to their relationships. Some of the reasons included fear, limited resources and quite weirdly, some of the women claimed that t.

Minority Youth and Crime: Minority Youth in Court
Youth in general, and young minority males in particular, often are demonized by legislators, the media, scholars, and the public at large. These attacks reinforce stereotypes and place a particularly heavy burden on young Black and Latino males.
LINDA S. BERES AND THOMAS D. GRIFFITH, “DEMONIZING YOUTH”1
In June 2001 Lionel Tate, an African American boy who was 12 years old when he killed a 6-year-old family friend while demonstrating a wrestling move he had seen on television, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Tate, who claimed that the death was an accident, was tried as an adult in Broward County, Florida; he was convicted of first degree murder. One month later, Nathaniel Brazill, a 14-year-old African American, was sentenced by a Florida judge to 28 years in prison without the possibility of parole. Brazill was 13 years old when he shot and killed Barry Grunow, a popular 30-year-old seventh grade teacher at a middle school in Lake Worth, Florida. Although Brazill did not deny that he fired the shot that killed his teacher, he claimed that he had only meant to scare Grunow and that the shooting was an accident. Like Tate, Brazill was tried as an adult; he was convicted of second degree murder.
These two cases raised a storm of controversy regarding the prosecution of children as adults. Those on one side argue that children who commit adult crimes, such as murder, should be treated as adults; they should be prosecuted as adults and sentenced to adult correctional institutions. As Marc Shiner, the prosecutor in Brazill’s case, put it, “This was a heinous crime committed by a young man with a difficult personality who should be behind bars. Let us not forget a man’s life has been taken away.”2 Those on the other side contend that prosecuting children as adults is “unwarranted and misguided.” They assert that children who commit crimes of violence usually suffer from severe mental and emotional problems and that locking kids up in adult jails does not deter crime or rehabilitate juvenile offenders. Although they acknowledge that juvenile offenders should be punished for their actions, they claim that incarcerating them in adult prisons for the rest of their lives “is an outrage.”3 According to Vincent Schiraldi, president of the Justice Policy Institute, “In adult prisons, Brazill will never receive the treatment he needs to reform himself. Instead, he will spend his time trying to avoid being beaten, assaulted, or raped in a world where adults prey on, rather than protect, the young.”4
Nathaniel Brazill is still incarcerated in the Brevard Correctional Institution. Assuming that none of his pending appeals are successful, he will not be released until 2028, when he will be 41 years old.5 Lionel Tate’s conviction, on the other hand, was overturned by a Florida appellate court in 2003. The court ruled that Tate should be retried because his competency to stan ...

Until recently, it was possible to condemn criminologists both for their near silence on women and criminal law, and for their sexism when they did speak. The most recent wave of feminism has witnessed two seemingly contradictory developments in theories of women and crime. First, femi-nism has kindled interest in women's studies in various academic disci-plines. Criminology has been no exception: the sexist treatment of women victims and offenders by police and other criminal justice officials, the sex-ism of traditional theories of crime, and the concept of victimless crimes have all been under attack.' But, there have also been arguments that women's crime has increased as a result of the women's liberation movement. This belief has been called "the most powerful and widely held ... concerning the topic of female criminality," and its impact has been felt by women offenders being pun-ished for their supposed acts of liberation.' Feminist criminologists now must do more than denounce mainstream criminology for its failure to ac-knowledge the significance of female crime. It is not enough simply to resurrect the neglected female offender. We must transcend the traditional boundaries of criminology and examine the role of the state and the law in reinforcing the position of women in contemporary society.

One of the important attributes of theory is the ability to help explain and predict outcomes. Within development, this couldn’t be truer. Developmental theories have helped researchers and professionals alike be able to understand how influential factors impact development and lead to positive and negative outcomes later on in life.
For this assignment, you are to select one of the provided case studies and analyze it using Bronfenbrenner’s ecological theory (revisit chapter 1). When analyzing the case study, you will address
each level
of the theory and indicate how factors from within the system impacted the development and outcome of the individual within the case study.
Microsystem
: examples include but are not limited to family members, teachers, friends, and neighbors; how do these factors interact with the individual and how does the individual impact these factors?
Mesosystem
: this level emphasizes relationships among members of the
microsystem
, such as the dynamic between parents and the child's teacher; are there dynamics that play a role in how the individual developed?
Exosystem
: here the environment can directly influence the individual, but the individual does not have a reciprocal role; an example would be a parent's place of employment; what factors within this system impacted the individual?
Macrosystem
: this level reflects the cultural influences of the individual, such as their socioeconomic status (SES) or race; again, the individual may not impact this level, but this can influence them; how and why did aspects of the macrosystem impact the individual's development?
Chronosystem
: here the historical context and change over the individual's lifespan can exact influence, including policy and social norms; for example, the legalization of same-sex marriage may influence an individual's willingness to be open about their sexual orientation and seek out a family. Utilizing the individual's age, what historical contexts may help explain the how and why of the individual's development?
These are just some sample questions you can ask as you evaluate the individual's development from each level of the ecological theory.
Now, the case studies are not fully complete and there are always additional factors that influence our choices and behaviors. You can speculate additional factors that are not listed, but be sure they are backed up with research and tie into ecological theory. While you can address the other family members that are listed within the vignette, the name in
bold
is the person of interest and whom you should center your analysis on.
Guidelines
Research will be crucial to help create your argument for why you think the case study person ended up the way that they did. You will need at least
three (3) scholarly sources
from peer-reviewed publications, such as academic journals, books, and textbooks. In-text citations and the reference page need to be presented in APA format.

After completing your first course project assignment, you should have a solid grasp of the crime you will explore and what the criminal justice response to this crime has been. It is now time to engage in some critical thinking about how we can seek to explain this crime.
Much of what we have been discussing these past few weeks includes theories that seek to explain crime. For this week's assignment, complete the following:
Identify two criminological theories that you believe will explain the crime you selected.
Discuss (critically) how these theories can apply to the crime you selected.
This assignment should be at least 2-3 pages in length.
Your paper should reference at least five scholarly sources that discuss a criminological theory, using APA format. Students should seek out peer-reviewed scholarly journal articles from LIRN to complete this assignment.
Abstract
In this paper, The two criminological theories which I will be using to explain child abuse and neglect is the classical criminological theory and the positivist theory. I will discuss how both of these theories can be applied to this particular crime.
Criminological Theories
There are numerous criminological theories. For this assignment I will work with classical criminological theory and the positivist theory (Eglin, 1992).
According to the positivist theory, people commit crimes because they lack the moral intelligence to stop them from making decisions that would lead to criminal actions. This theory asserts that people do not just make decisions to commit crimes but that there are internal forces that contribute to their wayward criminal behavior. These factors may include the social acceptability of the person, the moral values as well as the intelligence of the person. The person lacks the internal drive to make him obey the laws (Beirne,1987).
The classical criminological theory asserts people think critically before they commit a crime. Their thinking usually weighs the consequences of the action that one intends to commit. The thinking guides the people before making the decision to commit the crimes and therefore they are usually aware of what is likely to happen to them after the criminal action they intend to engage in. According to this theory, people make the decisions to commit crimes and are also aware of the consequences (Barak,1998).
Positivist theory and its application to the crime
Positivist theory can be applied to the child abuse crime from various perspectives. To begin with, the people who abuse children are very dear to them. These include babysitters, parents as well as close relatives. According to this theory, they therefore make the decision to abuse the child due to lack of moral intelligence. This is because if the person abusing the child had some morals, then the morals would guide him or her not to abuse the child but to take care of the child as is morally accepted. For instance, looking at Casey Anthony case, the mother might hav.

• Real GDP growth slowed down due to problems with access to electricity caused by the destruction of manoeuvrable electricity generation by Russian drones and missiles.
• Exports and imports continued growing due to better logistics through the Ukrainian sea corridor and road. Polish farmers and drivers stopped blocking borders at the end of April.
• In April, both the Tax and Customs Services over-executed the revenue plan. Moreover, the NBU transferred twice the planned profit to the budget.
• The European side approved the Ukraine Plan, which the government adopted to determine indicators for the Ukraine Facility. That approval will allow Ukraine to receive a EUR 1.9 bn loan from the EU in May. At the same time, the EU provided Ukraine with a EUR 1.5 bn loan in April, as the government fulfilled five indicators under the Ukraine Plan.
• The USA has finally approved an aid package for Ukraine, which includes USD 7.8 bn of budget support; however, the conditions and timing of the assistance are still unknown.
• As in March, annual consumer inflation amounted to 3.2% yoy in April.
• At the April monetary policy meeting, the NBU again reduced the key policy rate from 14.5% to 13.5% per annum.
• Over the past four weeks, the hryvnia exchange rate has stabilized in the UAH 39-40 per USD range.

USDA Loans in California: A Comprehensive Overview
If you're dreaming of owning a home in California's rural or suburban areas, a USDA loan might be the perfect solution. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) offers these loans to help low-to-moderate-income individuals and families achieve homeownership.
Key Features of USDA Loans:
Zero Down Payment: USDA loans require no down payment, making homeownership more accessible.
Competitive Interest Rates: These loans often come with lower interest rates compared to conventional loans.
Flexible Credit Requirements: USDA loans have more lenient credit score requirements, helping those with less-than-perfect credit.
Guaranteed Loan Program: The USDA guarantees a portion of the loan, reducing risk for lenders and expanding borrowing options.
Eligibility Criteria:
Location: The property must be located in a USDA-designated rural or suburban area. Many areas in California qualify.
Income Limits: Applicants must meet income guidelines, which vary by region and household size.
Primary Residence: The home must be used as the borrower's primary residence.
Application Process:
Find a USDA-Approved Lender: Not all lenders offer USDA loans, so it's essential to choose one approved by the USDA.
Pre-Qualification: Determine your eligibility and the amount you can borrow.
Property Search: Look for properties in eligible rural or suburban areas.
Loan Application: Submit your application, including financial and personal information.
Processing and Approval: The lender and USDA will review your application. If approved, you can proceed to closing.
USDA loans are an excellent option for those looking to buy a home in California's rural and suburban areas. With no down payment and flexible requirements, these loans make homeownership more attainable for many families. Explore your eligibility today and take the first step toward owning your dream home.
