Background History


Our school, which opened in 1976, was named for Julius Marks,

whose son had given land to the city of Lexington to build a sanitarium
with the agreement that a school be named for his father. The residents of
the Georgetown Road area wanted to keep the name Booker T. Washington
for a school being constructed on another site, so the Marks' heirs gave
permission to use their name for the next school.
Mission Statement
“The

mission of Julius Marks
Elementary is to educate our students
in a positive learning environment
that empowers all students to
successfully meet the challenges of an
ever changing society.”

What makes our school special


The students, parents, families and staff make

school special. All groups work together to ensure
learning and to make events like our annual fall

carnival a success.
What makes our school special


Students are expected to learn at high levels through

engaging, hands-on instruction. Inquiry projects are

developed through authentic, real-world writing.
Technologies, including document cameras, are used in

every-day instruction for empowering students.
What makes our school special


Band and orchestra are available during the school day, and Julius

Marks offers many after-school activities including chorus, Girls on

the Run, Academic Challenge teams, BMOR (Black Males on the
Rise) and many more. Through such programs, students are ensured
the opportunity to extend their learning during and after school.
Why I Chose Program
I

chose this organization because
helping people is what I love to
do, especially helping out with
kids because they are the future.
New Media Tools
They

are using both face book
and twitter.
Facebook
 Anyone

over the age of 13 with a valid
email address could join Facebook. Today,
Facebook is the world's largest social
network, with over a billion users
worldwide. Facebook is the world's most
popular social networking website.
Facebook
 It

makes it easy for you to connect and share
with your family and friends online. You can
send and receive messages from people, chat,
upload picture and videos; post information to
different pages, keep in touch with people and
connect to other media outlets from Facebook
and it also has even helped the web become
more open and social.

Twitter


Twitter is a service for friends, family, and coworkers to

communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick,
frequent messages. People write short updates, often called "Tweets"
of 140 characters or fewer. These messages are posted to your profile,

sent to your followers, and are searchable on Twitter search.

How Effective
 Both

Facebook & Twitter is not as effective
for Julius Marks.
 The pages are based on all schools in
Fayette county with broad information
about what's going on around school in
the counties .
How Effective
 After

talking to the principle and assistance at
the school, they all came to the conclusion
that they need to get up to date with the
social media.

I

will help assist them and get them up to date
with the new social media.
