Organisation
The building blocks of our body
are cells. Each cell performs a
specific function.
Groups of similar cells together
are called tissue.
Groups of different tissues
working together to perform a
function is called an organ.
Several organs working together
to perform a function is called
an organ system.
Groups of organs systems
together make up an organism.

The Human Body
The human body has different systems that work together to keep
humans alive.
A table showing the different systems in the human body.
System Function
Excretory Remove waste
Respiratory Enables gaseous exchange
Nervous Carries messages around the body
Skeletal Supports, protects and helps us to move
Circulatory Carries blood around the body
Digestive Takes food into our body
Reproductive Makes babies

The Excretory System
The excretory system removes waste
products from our body which could poison
us.
These waste materials are filtered out of the
blood by the kidneys.
The waste material is stored as a liquid
(urine) in the bladder before it is released
from the body.
The excretory system.

The Respiratory System
The respiratory system enables the
exchange of the gases oxygen and
carbon dioxide in the lungs.
The lungs are connected to the mouth
by a tube called the trachea or
windpipe. The diaphragm is a thin
muscle that helps us to breathe.
The respiratory system.

The Circulatory System
The circulatory system controls the flow of blood around the body.
A series of tubes called vessels carry the blood around the body.
There are three types, do you know what they are?
A table showing the different types of blood vessels.
Vessel Notes
Veins Carry blood towards the heart
Arteries Carry blood away from the heart
Capillaries Are the smallest vessels
The heart pumps blood around the body.
The blood carries food and oxygen to the cells. Blood also carries waste
from the cells.

The Nervous System
The nervous system carries messages
around the body. It allows the body to
detect and respond to stimuli.
The brain controls the nervous system.
The eye is a sense organ.
The nerves and the spinal cord carry the messages around the body.

The Skeletal System
There are over 200 bones in the human
body.
The skeletal system is made up of
bones and joints.
What is the function of the skeletal
system?
1. Support: It supports the body.
2. Protection: It protects vital organs
such as the brain.
3. Movement: It helps our bodies move
with the aid of muscles.
The skeletal system.

The Digestive System
The digestive system breaks down our food into small pieces and then absorbs
it. The food enters the digestive system through the mouth.
It then passes along the food tube or oesophagus into the stomach. Then the
food enters the small intestine and then the large intestine.
The undigested food is
stored in the rectum before
passing out of the body
through the anus.

The Reproductive System
This system is unusual because it is different for boys and girls.
The function of the reproductive system is to make more humans.
Female reproductive system. Male reproductive system.
