I Found Gold in Chicken short story.docxRIZACATILO2
This story is all about a man who became a successful businessman even if he didn't finish his studies. Sometimes success will occur not only for the educated person but also for the person who cannot afford to go to school because of financial problems. Being poor is not a hindrance to success; your dreams will come true if you are diligent and endure the hardships that come your way. No man is an island is a saying that also applies to his situation. Through the help of other people who helped him achieve his dream of helping his family give them everything that they need, as a person who came from an indigent family like me, I am honored that the man I am talking to is a cousin of mine. I know the struggles that he encountered during the time that we were kids.
The Traditional Families In Fiesta 1980 the story is ab.docxarnoldmeredith47041
The Traditional Families
In Fiesta 1980 the story is about the latin families live in America. The narrator Ynior and his siblings ( his sister madai, older brother Rafa and his parents which he called them papi and mami) are getting ready to attend his aunt’s party. Ynior has a car sickness which lead him punished from vomiting in the car and to be treated in an aggressive way by his father. Abusive behaviour of his father to him and to the whole family caused him to have anxiety and psychological problems the narrator tend to think that his parent’s marriage is unhappy because of unfaithful behaviour of his father. The narrator has a strong connection and love with his mother. The story articulate that the secret and abusive way of traditional families lives with.
The father is dominant and the decision maker in the family. This is one theme the author uses in developing the story. The father decide everything by his own, he never talked with his wife or children about any issue which rises among the family. He is aggressive and abuser, however his wife is kind and take care of the children and husband on top of obeying him as if that’s what she was supposed to be. He punished his children inorder to obey him for instance, “ expected your undivided attention when you were getting your ass whupped. You couldn’t look in the eye either---that wasn’t allowed. Better to stare at his belly button, which was perfectly round and immaculate. Papi pulled me to my feet by my ear. ” he punished them physically, if they made any mistake he beats them and whenever he did this they don't have the right to say something or the treatment is not right. “The time the damage was pretty minimal, nothing papi couldn’t was off the door with a blast of the house. He was pissed, though; he jammed his finger into my cheek, a nice solid thrust. That was the way he was with his punishments: imaginative.” even though the mistake isn’t that bad his father doesn't try to find out why it happened in a peaceful and calm way he uses the aggressive way of punishment to express that he suppose to be respected, this indicates that he ruled the house traditionally, also this is the way he treated them and they accepted to be treated like this.
Keeping secrets among the family are another theme the author uses in developing the story. The narrator and his brother Rafa know that the father cheated on their mother, however they both keep this secret from their mother “ He didn’t say nothing to nobody, not even my moms. He just pushed past her, held up his hand when she tried to talk to him and headed right into the shower. Rafa gave me the look and I gave it back to him; we both knew papi had been with that Puerto Rican women he was seeing and wanted to wash off the evidence quick.” the narrator and Rafa know their father was with the puerto Rican women but they pretend that they don’t know anything about the relationship. “ I didn’t say anythi.

CHARACTERS:
5. SETTING
PLACE
The story started in the
terminal, Rogelio’s waiting
for a bus that time.
Next, is in the jeepney where
he heard the news about
Candida.
And in the Barangay
Paglaum, where his
childhood began.
In the school, where he used
to see Didang holding iced
candy and two pesos for
Pepe.
Lastly, in Didang’s house
where he saw the melted
iced candy waiting for Pepe.
STATE
The story happened in
the 21st century
because the way the
author narrates the
story seems to be on
today's generation.
WEATHER
The weather in the
story is not good. It’s
raining hard.
6. PLOT SUMMARY
Rogelio was on his way home when he encountered some people talking about
promotion in their company. His mother told him to return as soon as possible to see
their dream house. On his way home, he heard the broadcaster from his MP4 telling the
name of Candida Hermosa of Barangay Paglaum. He kept on thinking about that girl.
Suddenly, memories started to play on his head. The memories of his childhood seeing
Candida as a crazy girl in their place, seeing her dancing, naked and crying. He sees
Candida being bullied by everyone. He sees how hard it was for Candida to visit her son
every five minutes before ten o’clock in the morning, peeping through the windows
while there were a class. How hard it was for her giving signal to Pepe to come out and
hand him two pesos and a piece of iced candy. And one time, when the rain pour so
hard Candida did not arrive. They looked out the window and saw her being wet by mud
with iced candy in her right hand, they obviously saw her swollen eyes suggested that
she was crying so hard and worried for her son. He also remember how much she loved
his son as she was running from the vendor because she stole an angel's wings in the
market for his son. The soft hearted mother that sacrifices all the things for his son.
After Pepe graduation, he left his mother and never returned again. As the memories
end, Rogelio still cant believe that the crazy woman create such an impact on him. He
goes to the hut Candida used to live with Pepe and saw a very clean place. He looked at
the table with her picture when she was young and he saw a melted iced candy waiting
for his son return.
8. Rising Action:
On his way home, he
turned on his mp4 so he
can catch up some news
about their place. The
news stating that
Candida Hermosa was
dead suddenly made
him confused. He kept
on thinking about where
and when he heard of
that familiar name.
Exposition:
Rogelio leaves his work to
come home. His mother
wants him to be back to
their province in Barangay
Paglaum in Cebu because
of their house blessing.
Climax:
He was in deep thoughts as
he approached the
marketplace and he rode
the motor cab with some
passengers. Two of them
were talking about the
death of Candida Hermosa
which made him realize
that she’s the crazy mother
of his former classmate in
elementary.
Falling Action:
He reminisced about his
elementary days with the
thoughts of Candida
Hermosa. He can’t seem to
believe that her death
would give him such
impact.
Resolution:
He decided to visit the hut
Didang and Pepe used to
live years ago just to feel the
relief he wants to be felt.
When he entered the house,
the thing that made him
teary was when he saw a
melted iced candy and two
peso coins. He felt the
mother's love filled all over
the house.
9. In the story, poverty is one of the
reason why there is a conflict. Didang
was wealthy until she got pregnant
and he raised her son alone. Didang
did everything for his son though she
was considered crazy. She went all
over the barrio asking for help,
stealing in the market, at times
standing outside the towering gates of
her family’s house. Most of the time,
she begged in the church. She went to
Pepe's school every day and give him
only two pesos and iced candy for him
to eat. These are the reason why Pepe
left his mom, to escape poverty and
his insane mom.
In the story, Didang was
a crazy woman because
of what happened to her
at a young age. She
raised her son alone.
The conflict is when
Pepe left Didang after he
graduated. Due to
frequent ruminating, her
cognitive impairment
worsen because she was
waiting for his son.
Waiting for nothing.
MAN VS SELFMAN VS SOCIETY
10. THE
ME
Alienation
Ambition
Betrayal
Love
Survival
A mother’s love for her
child is patient, forgiving,
unconditional and forever.
There’s no law for them,
she will always do
everything for the sake of
her child. She’ll endure all
the pain, difficulty and all,
just to give everything to
her child.
Thinking before acting is
wisdom but acting
before thinking is regret.
11. Two pesos-
In the story, it symbolizes the love of a
mother to his child. Didang visited her
son, Pepe, every morning, to hand him
two pesos and a piece of iced candy for
him to have something to eat.
However, Pepe left his mom after he
graduated and Didang died with the
two pesos and iced candy on her
house, waiting for him to come back
but it’s already too late.
House-
In story, it symbolizes hard work.
The narrator was able to build a
house for her mom because he
really works hard. But now, his
work is his life whether his mom
is begging him to come home and
have some rest. Also, all the
things Didang did for his son just
to survive.
12. PLOT DEVICE
The plot device used is flashback. Flashback is interruptions that
writers do to insert past events in the story. By using flashbacks, writers
allow their readers to gain insight into a character’s motivation and
provide a background to a current conflict. In the story, we see a
flashback has been used as Rogelio was heading home when he heard the
news about Candida Hermosa. He kept on thinking about her. Suddenly,
the memories started to play on his head and the flashback began.
13. In the story of Two Pesos,
the point of view used is
first-person because the
main character is telling the
story. The story uses the "I"
narrator. The narrator tells
his achievements and
experiences six years ago
when he left the country to
work, and all the memories
of Didang. He narrates the
sacrifices and how Didang
cared and loved his son
even though Pepe left him
alone.
