This research article examines how parenting style relates to the academic achievement of Lebanese adolescents. It finds that authoritative parenting is prospectively associated with better academic achievement, higher self-efficacy, and stronger intention to get good grades over a 6-month period. It also finds that self-efficacy and intention to get good grades partially mediate the relationship between authoritative parenting and academic achievement. In other words, authoritative parenting positively influences academic achievement both directly and indirectly by fostering self-efficacy and intention among adolescents. The study helps elucidate how parenting can impact academic performance through direct and indirect cognitive pathways.
