Pennsylvania American Water Company is one the prime investor-owned water utility
companies in the state of Pennsylvania and other various states, providing high-quality and
reliable water and wastewater services. My first week as an intern for Pennsylvania American
Water Company was interesting, because I found myself not being an intern but being apart of a
team. This week I had the wonderful opportunity to work under the leadership and visionary of
Joan Shott, Pennsylvania American Water Manager, Training Developer and my former
classmate. I came in with the mindset that I would be given training content to transform into an
e-learning content. However, I was wrong and found myself learning a lot more about project
management and the important role it plays in coordinating training and development. With the
visionary leadership of Joan Shott I found myself in meeting discussing party favors for
executives, and traveling to venues to host the executive event. Yet, in other meetings I learned
about the important of coordinating with content managers on the best deliverable method to
train their field operatives. As the week progress I had the opportunity to develop course syllabus
for a webinar.

September 3, 2013 to September 6, 2013
Your co-workers are your biggest asset is the theme of how my week went here at Pennsylvania
American Waters. My supervisor Joan was out of the office for most of the week, but she had
arrange for me to meet two fellow employees that was knowledgeable about Information
Technology and Training Development. The first individual I had the wonderful opportunity to
meet was Ray an Electrical Engineer that design training and development. Ray indicated to me
that he had been working for the company for 30 years. In our conversation I discovered that
Ray’s job was to come up with training and development on how to utilize the field equipment.
Afterward, I had the opportunity to spend some time with Clipped Head of the Information
Technology department. Clipped indicated to me the role he plays as the head of Information
Technology, and how he got his job here at Pennsylvania American Waters. As the day
progressed I travel with Clipped and other IT employees to a plant facility to disassemble
training laptops. Afterwards, I returned to my office to take on a project of my own in converting
Joan’s Computer Basic PowerPoint into e-learning module using Captivate.
It is good to see everything that I learned in the Learning Technologist program play out in the
work world. For instance, I found myself doing more project management planning, and
collaborating with content experts about the best delivery method in training employees on a
particular subject. Therefore, you can say that employee collaboration and project planning is
relevant to Learning Technology and its delivery methods.

Week 3
September 9, 2013 to September 13, 2013
Project management and deadlines is the name of the game this week at work. I started the week off meeting with
Joan my internship supervisor about the scope of a project that is being revealed next week. In addition, we discuss
what has been accomplished so fare and what is still needed to be done in order to unrolled Table Top project.
Afterward, we discuss the brochure and gift bag write I was designing for the Board and Executive Reception. I felt
honor to be able to display my graphic design skills for such a major event. As the week progress I continue to
correspond with Joan on which board members should or should not be in the brochure. However, we had minor
setbacks when we could not locate pictures of certain Board Members and specific Executive Official that need to
be displayed in the brochure. Yet, as a problem solver I found the missing Board Members and Executive that was
need to be added in the brochure. Through face to face meeting and emails Joan had confirmed that the brochures
had met her expectation to present to her superior. In addition, Joan and I continued to collaborate on writing up the
gift description for the Executive gift bags. Throughout the past week I been applying my collaborative learning
skills in which I learned from Harrisburg University to meet with Joan on building more collaborative work
community utilizing technology. As the week ended Joan was please with the write up and executive brochure I
produce.

September 16, 2013 to September 20, 2013
This week at Pennsylvania American Water has been a week of networking and collaboration
with experience co-workers. In addition, to networking and collaborating with co-worker I had
the opportunity to finally witness the deployment of the table top project. I had the opportunity to
assist IT in hooking up the Tough book laptops for the table top training. The Table top training
is a simulation program that teaches the AW trainers on how operate the SAP system and
formalization program so that the trainers can train fellow AW employees. Afterward, I had the
chance to collaborate with Joi an AW communication specialist on using the companies branding
concept to market the executing brochure and the executive gift listing. The communication
specialist indicated to me that she was pleased with the work I designed and that the work I did
had made her job easier in branding. Hence, what I learned in my conversation with Joi on
branding has given me the ability to brand the e learning module I develop. In addition, I had
network with another office staff on polishing up my rĂŠsumĂŠ. She provided positive feedback on
how to fix up my rĂŠsumĂŠ. As the week ended the human resource director, Joan my internship
supervisor and human resource assistant took me out to lunch to show me their appreciation of
my hard work and offer me temp position. I gladly accepted the position.
