One day somewhere in the mid-pleistonecene Epoch, (Ice Age) a man was trying to
create a stronger point on his point on his stone spear head, so that he could better
hunt, to feed and protect his clan.
He did this the only way he knew how, which he learned watching his father.
Oneday an exiled clansman, called Conso came across him and observed the work of
the mans spear head, Conso showed him, if he sharpened his spear head on a hard rock
instead of a soft rock, he would get a far sharper spear head in a much faster time.
The method worked the man provided Conso, with food and bed for the night
Consulting had been born.

The Recruitment Industry and the future
Recruitment consultants have a multi-faceted role. They work as marketers,
networkers, problem solvers, interviewers, and negotiators as they strive to find the
perfect match between job seeker and employer. There’s no telling where the perfect
candidate may be hiding - it’s the recruiter’s job to find them, get them engaged, and
assess their suitability for the role. Once a match has been made, consultants advise
both candidates and hiring managers on issues such as salary, training, benefits and
other practicalities.
While recruitment is a business development role – recruiters are expected to be target
driven and excel in sales – in the end it is a people business and recruiters aim to build

BE ABLE TO NEGOTIATE
Negotiation is a critical part of a recruitment consultant’s role. This is both in
negotiating terms with a client and also when negotiating salaries and job offers
with a candidate. Recruiters serve as the intermediary and it’s your job to come
to a solution that is acceptable to both parties.
‘It’s important that all parties within any negotiation walk away feeling happy
with the eventual outcome, especially if you want repeat business and long-lasting
relationships,’ explains Justin. ‘You need to make sure that you have done your
research, understand the boundaries and get to know your market inside out.
Don’t be afraid to walk away from a negotiation if you can’t achieve your minimum
requirements. Most importantly though have fun making your deals and like
anything practice makes perfect.’

There are various downsides to being a recruiter like there are
with any role, which could include:
• A high level of competition (which is only bad depending on
your personality and attitude towards work)
• Spending a lot of time in the day talking on the phone, which
can be tiring for some
• Unpredictability in monthly earnings, which may be a cause of
stress
• Commission-focused work, which may also be a source of
stress
• Having to occasionally be available in the evenings or on
weekends for phone calls or emails
• Being a recruiter can involve long hours (especially at the
beginning of your career), which could impact work-life
balance
• You’ll have to deal with rejection, as your candidates won’t
always get the role
• Candidates can change their mind and turn down a job offer
• You will have to deal with difficult candidates (i.e. those who
don’t show up for interviews or who constantly fail to reply to
emails or take your calls)
Based on these pros and cons of working in recruitment, you
should have a sense of whether this career path is suited to your
personality, interests, and goals. If you think you would make an
excellent recruiter, then the next step is to decide which industry
appeals the most to you.
