Rage WITH the machine, not against it: Machine learning for Event ManagementSplunk
Simplify service operations and improve reliability of events with machine learning and analytics
Your data centre creates a lot of events — from low-level disk warnings to critical network issues and even service-level failures. With so many events and false positives, how do you know which events are important and which ones to ‘throw away’? Your current rules-based tools don’t work they are inflexible, cannot handle event volumes from today’s transient infrastructures and do not provide actionable alerts that help you fix the important problems first.
Join this webinar to learn how Splunk IT Service Intelligence employs the power of machine learning to provide actionable human scale alerts with service context in an integrated solution, enabling IT teams to focus on fixing what’s broken quickly and easily. Learn how you can rapidly apply machine learning to:
- Catch anomalous behavior to detect events before they become critical incidents
- Avoid having to create manual rules and set adapt thresholds dynamically
- Automatically correlate data to generate highly qualified information, so you can take fast action
- Prioritize and speed up investigation on the most important incidents with service context
Data & Analytic Innovations: 5 lessons from our customersNick Smith

Splunk for Industrial Data and the Internet of Thingsaliciasyc
The IoT is a natural evolution of the world’s networks. Just as people became more connected by devices and applications during the explosion of the social media revolution, devices, sensors and industrial equipment are also becoming more connected—and are consuming and generating data at an unprecedented pace. Disparate and deployed connected devices can provide a unique touchpoint to real-world operations and conditions. Only few architectures and applications are designed to handle the constant streams of real-time events, sensor readings, user interactions and application data produced by massive numbers of connected devices. Use Splunk to collect, index and harness the power of the machine data generated by connected devices and machines deployed on your local network or around the world.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
Good morning everyone.
Who knows Splunk here?
For those that don’t know Splunk, we’re a machine-data analytics organisation. We are headquartered in San Francisco and now have over 13k customers across 110 countries. We have been around for over 10 years but we are still experiencing hyper growth, over 40% year on year.
Our solutions run both in the cloud as a service or on premise. Or hybrid.
Whatever industry you come from, the machine-data generated by the applications, systems, mobile devices that underpin your business is the fastest growing segment of big data.
This new generation of connected devices, cloud services, containerised and microserviced based architectures is only increasing the volocity at which this data is generated.
So not only is it your biggest data, but it’s the data that is the most value to your organization.
It’s value that touches all industries. For example,
Shazam analyse the behaviour of their users using their mobile application to draw business insights to better adapt their products and services.
In finance, Unicredit monitor the health and performance of their critical applications and drastically reduce their MTTR
In healthcare, the NHS in the UK use machine data to improve the user experience of their digital services including the central patient records system
And that’s why IT outages are the highest priority for your business.
And Gatwick are building the airport of the future with machine-data at the centre of how they improve the experience of their customers as they go through their terminals.
For example by analysing data generated by the thousands of sensors and applications that support their terminal operations and by taking data from external data feeds such as the rail systems and the road network, they are able to better mobilise their staff based on forecasted increase in passangers within certain parts of the terminal to ensure to ensure over 98% of all their passangers get through security in less than 5 minutes.
Splunk customers are realizing tremendous value across multiple industries and use cases. From Fortune 100 to small shops, enterprises, service providers and government agencies are improving service levels, reduce IT operations costs, mitigate security risks and drive new levels of operational visibility.
As they gain new visibility into their real-time and historical machine data, Splunk’s customers are finding answers and solving the most challenging issues facing IT and the business.
