7 reasons to stay in job search mode
According to CNBC, in May 2021, 4 million people resigned from their jobs. BLS reports that 9.3 million job openings (in general). BLS also reports companies created 559,000 jobs. If you are just now thinking the time is to start preparing to make that "dream job" move, you may be too late.
Job search is a lifestyle now. Consider this your heads up.
But, slow or fast, are you #jobsearch ready? People who have jobs or just quit (in the last 90 days) may have the leverage.
That's the way employers will see it.
That's the way they have always seen it.
It's never late to prepare if you've been unemployed for six months or more. So whether you're reskilling or upskilling, I hope you've been networking!
Employers will ask:
Why did you leave your last job? How did you handle unemployment?
You will need to craft an answer.
You will need to craft stories to show you are the prescription to the employer's job description.
Among many other things, you'll need to ask employers questions too:
For example, how did you pivot your protocols during the pandemic?
How did you show empathy to those with crisis and concerns?
What would your employees say about how well you did?
I think this window of opportunities will close soon. There ain't no shoulder with a chip. Employers won't be sentimental about their choices, and there ain't no shoulder with a chip.

The Internet profoundly affects how busi-ness is conducted in the world today, and
recruiting and hiring processes are being
swept along in this current. The Internet
lends itself well to finding and attracting
college graduates, skilled workers, managers,
and executives. These groups tend to be
computer literate, and technology use is an
integral part of their daily routines, helping
them develop and maintain connections at
work as well as in their personal lives.
Much of what is described in this article
falls under the broad category of social media.
Podcasting, blogging, text messaging, Internet
videos, and HR e-mail marketing are all
examples of social media. Popular social-
media Web sites such as MySpace, Facebook,
Wikipedia, and Yahoo! Groups abound and
are subscribed to by millions of people,
prompting employers to explore ways to use
social media in their search for new talent.
This article provides an overview of how social
media are currently being used by leading-
edge companies as well as job seekers.
CORPORATE EXAMPLES
Social media can take a variety of forms, pre-
senting different ways to engage an audience,
including current and prospective employees.
Many are focused on promoting products,
services, and a corporate image.
For example, Budweiser, in collaboration
with JibJab Media (www.JibJab.com), is devel-
oping a series of video commercials that is
being used on broadcast TV and the Internet.
Going to Google Video and typing “Bud Com-
mercials” as the search term will yield
in excess of 140 hits. Most of these hilarious
pieces are available for download to your
computer, iPod, or other handheld device.
Budweiser is counting on a major social-media
driver, word of mouth, to attract viewers to its
commercials.
Volvo, capitalizing on the promotions
related to the release of the motion picture
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,
started a blog campaign in which people
worldwide could hunt for a pirate-themed
Volvo SUV. The “Pirate’s Treasure” contest
allowed people to share tips, clues, and even
poems through a blog entitled “The Hunt.”
Volvo was able to get over 30,000 people
involved in “The Hunt,” leading up to and
during the release of the film.1
Microsoft, on the other hand, is using the
Internet for recruiting purposes. Following is

While they turn to their news feed for most of life’s updates, the realization that their first job offer won’t come that way begins to dawn on them. As many graduates leave school, some for the first time ever, the prospect of finding a job is onerous. In response to this first-time challenge, TRAIL’s inaugural platform, JobScout, has become a tool that students turn to when looking for the path to that first employment opportunity. JobScout is the online platform designed to teach people the essential Internet and job-hunting skills they need in today’s online marketplace. Useful to all demographics, it breaks down the process of finding a job online, whether navigating social media networks like LinkedIn or providing guidance on the appropriate way to format a cover letter and resume. JobScout’s goal is to help libraries, schools, community organizations and workforce development agencies to decrease Millennial unemployment, which is currently at 25% in the United States. Worldwide, according to a recent Economist article, nearly 300 million individuals between the ages of 15 to 24 are not working or studying. “JobScout was intended to help those without digital literacy skills, but we are realizing that some of our most basic and fundamental job-hunting tools are being utilized most by Millennials,” said TRAIL CEO Christina Gagnier. “As a result, we are focusing more attention on outreach to that demographic who needs our resources.”
- 2. The platform offers nearly 40 lessons that include a variety of topics, such as using social media to network and find employment. JobScout also offers lessons on alternatives to traditional employment, such as using Elance, Etsy and TaskRabbit. Users can build a resume, search for jobs and apply for them from the mobile and Web applications. Below are a few experts from the JobScout platform offering recent grads a few tips and techniques for job-hunting as they enter into the working world: 1. Take Advantage of LinkedIn – The popular social network for professionals is a great place to start networking in the business world. Begin looking up companies and positions that interest you the most and request to add them to your network and possibly have an “in” if the time ever comes for an interview. 2. Be Familiar with the Company – Getting to know a company’s website will help you give a good impression during your interview. Using the website, you can gain important knowledge about the company that shows your interviewer you are prepared for the job. 3. Be Ready to Speak About Your Experience - It’s best to have strong examples of your experience to talk about. The best way to do this is to think of examples of times when you have demonstrated those skills on the job. A good resource to help you prepare is your resume. Look at your work history. For each job listed on your resume, come up with an example of how you used a skill to accomplish something important.
