Position Title: Technical Processing Manager
Main functions: To support the mission of the Library by managing operations at the Main Library, including
handling tasks related to acquisitions and technical processing oflibrary materials, holding maintenance, updating
and implementing library policies, and performing other duties as assigned.
Reports to: Director; Assistant Director
Category: Full time
Duties:
 Train employees on library software
 Work with vendors to acquire materials
 Orders new materials
 Responsible for receiving and quality control of materials, including specified processing and
approval of invoices
 Reconcile incoming materials with packing list, purchase orders for accounts
 Sets up accounts and specifications with vendors
 Sort, prepare and record donated materials for library collections, book sale, or recycling; sets-up
annual book sale
 Supervises monthly new book lists and branch rotation lists in cataloging software
 Thorough understanding ofMARC cataloging and best practices for state database
 Load, edit and modify all existing electronic records, maintain authority records as needed
 Prepare withdraw/discarded materials and purchase replacements
 Responsible for acquisitions, organization, and display of periodicals
 Supervises maintenance of local database ofmaterials held, including annual holdings inventory
 Prepare all library materials for circulation; including cases,jackets, labels, tape, barcodes,etc…
 Responsible for memorials (purchasing, processing and plating)
 Organize work flow, including training and supervising of staff and volunteers
 Participates in planning and evaluation of services and procedures
 Interacts with staff to clarify orders, maintain “reserve” file and cataloging decisions
 Oversees donations,discards,mending and cleaning of library materials
 Laminates as needed
 Maintains special collections lists in cataloging software (i.e. New York Times book review…)
 Work as part of a team with minimal supervision
 Understand and administer library policies and procedures
 Answer routine questions and locate specific materials
 Move boxes, furniture and office equipment
Working conditions:
 Inside working environment with florescent lighting
 Occasional heavy work, moving furniture and boxes
 Noise level is typical of public library and will vary depending on activities, generally quiet to
moderately noisy
 Keyboarding, typing, writing, sorting and filing
 Work efficiently and under deadline
 Large shared workroom space
Employment Requirements:
 Some college coursework, Bachelor’s or comparable experience
 Three years library experience working with the public, preferably a library setting
 Proficient in Horizon software and functionality
 Understanding of automated databases and MARC records
 Punctual, meticulous and reliable
 Courteous manners with the public
 Good communication skills in both oral and written
 Demonstrate ability to accurately perform highly detailed tasks
 Proactive in public service standards
 Pleasant and courteous manner when working with patrons and staff
Equipment used: Personal computer and software, scanner, printer, receipt printer, mouse, copy machine,
telephone, fax, audio-visual equipment, building systems such as security and heating.
