After mechanization in 1790’s (first industrial revolution), mass production in 1900’s (second industrial revolution) and automated production in 1970’s (third industrial revolution), in the next five years we will see the rise of cyber-physical systems, the fourth industrial revolution. As part of the Industry 4.0, Robotic Process Automation (RPA) will radically change both backend and frontend enterprises infrastructures and processes leading to significant cost reduction, production increase and higher customer satisfaction. Hardware and software robots will be designed to augment human workflow making it more efficient and effective. Core enabler of the whole fourth industry revolution will be analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence based on big data and IoT, all ready technologies now-a-days. After discussing some recent Bip’s case studies on machine learning and artificial intelligence technologies, the speech will focus RPA opportunities in Industry 4.0.
The document discusses three major trends that will transform supply chains and logistics property demand over the next 5-10 years:
1) Technological changes like e-commerce, big data, the Internet of Things, and automation will shift supply chains from being production-led to being consumer-centric and demand-driven. This will increase demand for facilities supporting fast fulfillment and reduce demand for stockholding warehouses.
2) Globalization and "right-shoring" will impact the geographic locations of industrial and logistics facilities in Europe as companies optimize their supply chain footprints.
3) Urbanization will be a key driver of new models for efficient city logistics to address issues like last-mile delivery, congestion
In Europe’s cities ‘same-day delivery’, last-mile fulfilment and urban logistics’ unique challenges will fundamentally change the types of distribution properties required.

Great presentation from Frost & Sullivan in Luxembourg at CEO Sustainability Club (by IMS Luxembourg) on the "Mega Trends" which will change the economy in the coming years.
The document discusses how electricity systems are changing from "stupid" centralized systems to "smart" decentralized systems. It outlines four stages: 1) the traditional centralized hierarchy; 2) the addition of demand response through aggregators; 3) fully activating demand through peer-to-peer trading and energy communities; and 4) regulators adapting to these changes. While initially wary of disruptions, regulators like Ofgem now recognize flexibility and platforms as key to the new interactive system and transactive energy future.
The future of hyperconnected buildings - Illumni 2014Bruce Duyshart
Presented as part of the Illumni Future of Lighting Summit 2014 (http://futureof.lighting) in collaboration with the Sydney Vivid Festival of Light, Music and Ideas. (http://www.vividsydney.com).
Presentation Synopsis
Today we are living in a hyper-connected data driven world. The phenomenal global rise of mobile and wearable computing is raising the bar of digital literacy and has awakened people's awareness and expectations of what can be achieved with technology. But how will this expectation match the reality of what is evolving in the built form environments we live and work in?
This insightful presentation examines the status of technological progress that is occurring outside of the property industry.
It then explores the concept of smart buildings that are now beginning to sense, adapt and respond to our functional, environmental and personal needs.
To conclude, a number of smart lighting concepts are illustrated that illustrates how light and technology can be combined in ways that adds intelligence and provides better user experiences to a range of environments.
Carlos Lopez Blanco of Telefonica discusses a re-evaluation of "convergence" which has promised much but delivered little. Broadband must be seen as the key provision in convergence whilst policymakers need to overcome real challenges including a consistent enforcement of net neutrality principles, a strengthening of consumer trust and control and an alignment of international policy in data privacy and processing.

Factors in Adopting Multi-acccess Technologies in Online Consumer Auction Mar...Eric van Heck
The document analyzes factors for adopting multi-access technologies in online consumer auction markets in Finland. It identifies four factors from literature: 1) perceived appropriateness of the technology, 2) media richness of the technologies, 3) support for multiple communication relationships, and 4) experience using multiple marketing channels. The document then analyzes five Finnish auction markets and finds they predominantly use only the Internet, despite other technologies being widely used in Finland. It suggests media richness and communication support could stimulate adopting other technologies.
This document discusses the rise of decentralized energy units like electric vehicles, storage technologies, and solar PV in Germany and how platforms can facilitate local electricity markets for these "prosumers." It suggests that platforms can: 1) democratize market access and provide on-demand access to services; 2) utilize underused assets by enabling people to sell excess electricity; and 3) create online marketplaces granting access to these assets. The key innovations of platforms are that they connect supply and demand to unlock innovations and create new profit centers in a sustainable way. The document presents business models for how a platform called EMPOWER could integrate prosumers into local electricity marketplaces.
This document discusses how a "generic city node model" can be used to optimize multimodal flow networks in smart cities. It proposes modeling cities as networks of interconnected "city nodes" like buildings, connected by infrastructure networks for transportation, energy, and information. This allows analyzing key city performance metrics and matching them with technological capabilities. It describes defining energy and transportation networks as "multimodal flow networks" that can be cross-optimized. The goal is to leverage synergies across infrastructures to address big data challenges in smart cities and explore optimization opportunities at both a technical and stakeholder level.

and from warehouses full of robots
Broadband and power
connectivity will become
critical
More buildings used for
rapid throughput
Taller buildings
- more automated storage and retrieval
systems
- more mezzanine floors
What will these changes mean for labour and the direct employment benefit associated with warehouse developments?
Less demand for warehouses
to function as storage facilities

Conclusions - corporates, developers and investors beware!
2 3
Corporates need to better
integrate their property and supply
chain decision-making to optimise
their distribution property networks
Developers and investors must think
about how they can future proof
their buildings:
• Think autonomous vehicles and
warehouses full of robots
• What then constitutes good
design and a good location?
