This document discusses the rise of decentralized energy units like electric vehicles, storage technologies, and solar PV in Germany and how platforms can facilitate local electricity markets for these "prosumers." It suggests that platforms can: 1) democratize market access and provide on-demand access to services; 2) utilize underused assets by enabling people to sell excess electricity; and 3) create online marketplaces granting access to these assets. The key innovations of platforms are that they connect supply and demand to unlock innovations and create new profit centers in a sustainable way. The document presents business models for how a platform called EMPOWER could integrate prosumers into local electricity marketplaces.
