Debbie Holley shares her and David Biggins work on learning design and student 'technostress' which challenges our assumptions about the online spaces students choose to learn - especially in regard to Virtual Learning Environments. What do they prefer and how can we help them? This talk will offers insights into accessing and interpreting data in ways that are more useful for academics, learning developers, and learning designers, and suggests ways in which we can effectively frame student support by putting the ‘real’ student experience at the centre of our practice.

In this webinar, Kimberly Large, field representative at the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), provides an introduction to working with foreign students and exchange visitors. SEVP is part of the National Security Investigations Division and acts as a bridge for government organizations that have an interest in information on nonimmigrants whose primary reason for coming to the U.S. is to be students. Kimberly provides a program overview and talks about ways campus law enforcement can incorporate international students into emergency preparedness, hot topics and the latest updates on F-1/M-1 students, and resources available to NCCPS stakeholders. A discussion of the international student life cycle offers a better understanding of processes for schools and students, as well as the government forms required to maintain status in the U.S.
This is a beginner level webinar appropriate for senior administrators, campus safety and security officers/law enforcement, emergency managers, and international education officials. Other audiences that may benefit include staff from residential life and student conduct and affairs.

1) A study analyzed the impact of lost instructional time due to COVID-19 on student learning in North Carolina. It found that on average, students made less progress than in previous years and gaps widened for economically disadvantaged students.
2) While all student groups were negatively impacted, some groups like students with disabilities and English learners were closer to their expected performance trajectories compared to others. Subjects like math saw greater impacts.
3) Next steps include providing more data to schools and districts, gathering feedback, and continuing research partnerships to support learning recovery and address opportunity gaps exacerbated by the pandemic.

Students also connected with each other, as 83% reported networking opportunities at the conference. Overall, the assessment supports that the conference successfully delivered information on resources, self-advocacy, and networking to student parents.
Measuring the Success of Student Veterans and Active Duty Military StudentsInsideTrack
The population of current and former service members in college is large, growing and poorly understood. In the 3 years since the Post-9/11 GI Bill took effect, colleges have doubled their enrollment of student veterans, increased programs and services for them and intensified marketing to recruit more.
A joint study by InsideTrack and NASPA was undertaken to provide insights into retention and completion rates for student service members and veterans, and their primary attrition factors.

Learning gains has increasingly become apparent within the HE literature, gained traction in government policies in the UK, and are at the heart of Teaching Excellence Framework (TFL). As such, this raises a question to what extent teaching and learning environment can actually predict students’ learning gains using principles of learning analytics. In this presentation, which is joined work with University of Surrey and Oxford Brookes, I will focus on some preliminary findings based upon developing and testing an Affective-Behaviour-Cognition learning gains model using longitudinal approach. The main aim of the research is to examine whether learning gains occur on all three levels of Affective-Behaviour-Cognition model and whether any particular student or course characteristics can predict learning gains or lack of learning and dropout. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. • LTU chose not to validate data - now
considering to do so in the future for
more accurate data.
• Cannot always rely on data – human
intervention always needed and learnt
to use facility to back up findings and
data.
• Ensuring in house processes were
streamlined to work fully with Jisc – for
example ensuring module start and end
dates were correct for a streamlined
approach.
• More students’ needing support than we
ever recognised before as they were
slipping through the net, and data helps
to find them.
• Training is key – ensuring all staff are
fully trained by mandatory training and
drop-in sessions.
• Poor staff engagement has a
detrimental effect on how to support
students, and all staff needed onboard
to create success.

Identifying at risk students; via engagement, non subs,
resits, etc.
Look at students’ VLE, Teams, Attendance data.
RAG indicators – helpful at engagement meetings and
give a better picture of students engagement.
Utilise notes section – gives context of student
academic life.
Engagement meetings carried out every 4 weeks to discuss at
risk students by looking at VLE, module, teams data etc – and
assign outcome.
Increasing amounts of data, creating a fuller picture and
support for students’ who need it.

• Human interaction is always needed
at LTU – students are a name and
not a number
• At engagement meetings data
supports our decisions but it is
always made with a wider view –
SLEOs, academics, PTs, etc.
• Inconsistencies and lag times in data
– room for human error, so SLEOs
and engagement meetings help to
iron out the data and not cause
unnecessary concern.
• GDPR compliant – better than paper
systems etc. keeps all data in one
place and secure, little room for data
breaches.
• Data to prove and support appeals,
